The Bilingual Recovery Mentor provides culturally specific services to monolingual adult Latino / Latina / Latinx clients with consideration for how culture intersects with addiction and recovery as well as support in looking at cultural influences on behavior.

Provides case management offering a combination of referral linkage, assistance with culturally specific barrier removal, individual counseling, family support, group counseling and case management services to assist client's successful engagement in treatment and the family's ability to support the client's continued treatment involvement.

May work in a residential or outpatient setting.

Location : This position is based out of LifeWorks NW's Hillsboro Walnut site.

Pay / Benefits : $21.32 starting hourly pay, plus $2.00 per hour for Spanish language fluency. This position offers .

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Screens and selects clients to participate in the mentoring program.
  • Develop the service plan for all clients including a service reporting plan on each referral.
  • Within the first five working days following intake into services, the client and (if appropriate) family members meet with the Recovery Mentor and the Primary Counselor to develop a case management plan.
  • The Recovery Mentor should have daily contact with clients for up to the first five weeks after release helping with engagement in recovery support, housing and employment issues, family adjustment issues, legal, housing, medical and benefit issues.

Frequency of contact should gradually decrease to the point of twice monthly or monthly contact by the ninetieth day after release.

  • Responsible for assisting the family in the initial implementation of the plan, maintaining regular communications with the client's primary therapist, collateral providers, community corrections staff, and linking the client system to needed services within the community.
  • Determines when to terminate clients from the program because services are no longer necessary or the client is not responding to the mentor model.
  • Meets regularly with staff from social service agencies to update them on LifeWorks NW services identifying unmet services / needs LifeWorks NW may be able to address;
  • review and update referral and case coordination procedures as needed; obtain referral requests and work with referral sources to remove any barriers to treatment;
  • report back if clients fails to attend; obtain relevant case information from the referral for the clinician who will be doing the client's intake assessment;

work with referral source and client to facilitate the family's involvement in the assessment and the treatment planning process.

  • Attend informational and clinical meetings which may include all-agency meetings, team meetings, consultation meetings with psychiatrist, staffing, intra-agency trainings, etc. as required.
  • All services must be provided in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Some evenings / weekends required
  • Travels between sites or in the community driving clients when needed.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) fluency required.
  • High school diploma / GED.
  • Must have a current Recovery Mentor Certification and a Traditional Health Worker number from the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
  • If recovering from a substance abuse related disorder, must be able to demonstrate continuous sobriety under nonresidential, independent living conditions for the immediate past two years.
  • Substantial experience with issues involving addiction including the language, values, norms and other attributes of the subculture;

the subtleties and linguistic nuances of the differences between honest dialogue and statements made for effect.

  • Extensive knowledge of how to efficiently navigate the social service network from the bottom up.
  • Must be able to accompany clients throughout their environment.
  • Must have knowledge of the legal / corrections system.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and maintains a cooperative working relationship with others in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Requires ability to work some evenings and / or weekends
  • Requires access to car, valid driver's license, proof of current automobile insurance coverage and verification of safe driving record from DMV.
