Summary
Reporting to the HR Director, you will foster a positive employee relations environment by collaborating with management and staff;
providing guidance and interpretation of policies, practices and programs with education and compliance in sight.
The HR Generalist will work as part of a team to implement full-cycle HR activities for assigned areas. You will draw upon experience and knowledge, provide support to Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) team members, and ensure efficient responses to talent acquisition needs, organizational matters and other issues.
This position may serve as a lead for onboarding / offboarding, training and development activities, and assist in building staff engagement programs.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) manages U-M's enrollment function to efficiently optimize students' experiences throughout their engagement, from prospect to alumni.
The division collaborates with campus partners, faculty, and staff, in support of the university's mission and commitment to academic quality, accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
OEM comprises a dedicated team of more than full-time staff members, and up to additional student and temporary staff and is structured in five operational units : the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of New Student Programs, the Office of the Registrar, and OEM Administration.

Responsibilities*
Talent acquisition and employee lifecycle
- Manage hiring processes and collaborate with supervisors to meet talent acquisition needs; partner to develop job postings, investigate and recommend sourcing options to maximize diversity of pools and ensure standard interview techniques.
- Collaborate with the HR Director and subunits to make competitive and equitable offers.
- Develop and facilitate on / off-boarding activities including OEM New Employee Welcome Program. Review, evaluate and revise program to enrich the employee experience.
- Coordinate access, equipment and other related on / off-boarding tasks with administrative staff and Neighborhood IT.
- Coordinate temporary / student hire processes, onboarding / off-boarding activities and pay increases for temporary staff.
- Document and monitor processes, and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
Employee relations and performance
Coach and counsel managers though employee relations issues. Advocate, maintain compliance and provide options towards resolution.
Collaborate with campus partners and refer issues to the HR Director as appropriate.
- Administer and support the annual performance management process. May facilitate training.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for staff leaves of absence. Counsel managers and staff of viable options, university policies and federal / state laws (e.g. FMLA).
HR Information systems and records
- Prepares documentation related to human resource activities including, but not limited to salary programs, employment changes, staffing appointments, hires, terminations, requests for leave, etc.
- Maintain HRRIS records for all regular and temporary staff, and compile reports. Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Process HR transactions for regular and temporary employees. Ensure integrity of data.
Other duties
Identify resources, coordinate professional development activities, and facilitate training for the OEM team. Work with the HR Director to evaluate success and adjust training.
Promote staff engagement and participate in events. Serve on committees as HR Representative.
May provide direction to unit administrative support staff on HR matters.
Assist with projects as assigned. Stay abreast of current trends and issues within HR to best support team members.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or other related field.
- Three years of HR experience, preferably at the generalist / specialist level.
- Experience with Oracle HRMS or similar systems.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws
- Possess a flexible, customer service oriented, problem-solving attitude and a willingness to work successfully in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and Google applications.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, with different work styles, at all levels.
Desired Qualifications*
- SHRM Certification.
- Previous experience working in an academic or student services environment.
Modes of Work
The Office of Enrollment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days.
Thursdays are required as an on-site work day for all members of the OEM team.
