Job Description

The Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs is responsible for the WellsLink Leadership Program which engages first and second-year students of color who are not in athletics or sponsored by any of the University’s state or federal programs, in a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their leadership and critical thinking skills.

The position supervises the coordinator of mentoring programs, and graduate / undergraduate student employees assigned to both WellsLink and Dimensions.

They assist the director to provide creative leadership that enriches a diverse campus culture and results in the students’ academic, social, and personal success.

Additionally, they work with students, faculty, professional staff, and community resources to develop and administer a wide range of programs and services that support student retention and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an emphasis on supporting students from disadvantage and underrepresented populations.

This position also assists the director on evaluation and assessment initiatives and oversees all departmental social media platforms. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of three years of higher education experience working with students from multicultural populations (including Indigenous, Black / African American, Latine, Asian, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, and bi / multiracial students).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in supervision, program development, assessment, and conflict resolution are desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and application of student development theory with regards to multicultural populations through an intersectional lens.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills are desirable.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues related to students of color in predominantly white institutions of higher education are required.
  • Commitment to diversity, civic engagement, the arts, leadership, student development, and continuous improvement is essential.
  • Experience with program development, event planning, and management.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with staff of the Intercultural Collective (Center for International Services, Disability Cultural Center, LGBTQ Resource Center, Barner-McDuffie House, and the Kessler Scholars Program).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the WellsLink Leadership Program with primary emphasis on student experience, social development, and academic success / achievement.
  • Create and facilitate weekly workshops for first year and second year WellsLink Scholars, focusing on empowerment, leadership, and professional development.
  • Develop and oversee a WellsLink Student Advisory Council.
  • Coordinate and manage the WellsLink Transitions Ceremony and Motivation Reception.
  • Supervise the Coordinator of Mentoring Programs.
  • Manage the WellsLink Co-Curricular budget.
  • Oversee undergraduate and graduate student hiring and facilitate weekly meetings with WellsLink interns and the graduate student / academic consultant.
  • Contribute to the development of a curriculum, informed by best practices, to provide individualized support for the well-being and sense of belonging of first and second year WellsLink scholars and promote student success and retention.
  • Assist in developing a curriculum, informed by best practices, for diversity and inclusion education for all students served by Multicultural Affairs.
  • Serve as the lead person for diversity and inclusion programming initiatives coming out of Multicultural Affairs.
  • Assist the program coordinator for Native Student Program to plan and implement programs and events for the Indigenous students.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of historical celebratory months including Latine Heritage Month (LHM), Native Heritage Month (NHM), Black History Month (BHM), and Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander History Month (AAPIHM).
  • Lead the planning and implementation of OMA s End of Year Celebration, Multicultural Graduation Reception, and the Black Graduation / Itanwa Orinwa (Our Story, Our Song).
  • Other duties as assigned.
