Job purpose
The Psychiatric APRN is responsible for providing comprehensive, integrated mental health care to patients in the community.
- This role will assist in the delivery of an effective, efficient program of psychiatric services to adults and children, with particular emphasis on services essential to psychopharmacological services;
- inpatient services; effective diversion to outpatient community-based programs; liaison with medical community; team consultation;
integration of primary and behavioral health care; and promotion of quality assured managed care service system.
Duties and responsibilities
Assessment and Diagnosis : Responsible for conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments of patients to gather information about their mental health status, medical history, and psychosocial factors.
Use clinical expertise to make diagnoses and formulate treatment plans.
Treatment Planning : Based on their assessment, develop individualized treatment plans for patients, which may include medication management, psychotherapy, counseling, and other interventions.
They collaborate with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team to establish goals and interventions for optimal mental health outcomes.
- Medication Management : Prescribe and monitor medications used in the treatment of mental health conditions. They assess the patient's response to medication, adjust as necessary, and educate patients about potential side effects and interactions.
- Collaborate & Consult with Other Healthcare Professionals : Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as primary care providers, social workers, and dentists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for their patients.
This role may consult and collaborate with colleagues to determine the most effective treatment approaches.
Monitor Progress and Follow-up Care : Regularly assess the progress of their patients and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Monitor the effectiveness of medications, evaluate the impact of therapy, and provide ongoing support to help individuals achieve their treatment goals.
- Interdisciplinary Care : Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Crisis Intervention : Provide crisis intervention and assessment for patients seeking care or referred by a healthcare professional.
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a specialization in Psychiatric Nursing.
- Valid Licensure as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner; State of Kansas
- Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
- Valid Board Certification in Adult and / or Child Psychiatry
- Valid DEA Certificate
- Active BLS Certification
- 2+ years of providing direct patient care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders preferred.
- Ability to work with both adult and youth / child populations preferred.
