Duties

As an Excise Tax Examiner 3 in the Public Works unit, you will independently resolve the most complex excise tax examinations to ensure proper liability and distribution, provide expert consultation to other staff on mission critical systems, laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

Additionally, a senior level examiner on the team plans and conducts training for internal and external audiences, and administers the Public Works Contract program as well as assist with the Corporate Dissolution Program.

In the course of your duties, you will :

• Analyze, research, correct, issue and collect outstanding taxes on Public Works Contract audits. This will include detailed review of the Notice of Completion from the awarding agency and review of reconciliation and taxpayer account.
• Build strong working relationships by providing expert consultation to construction contractors, municipalities, department staff and others.
• Collect taxes owed by filing retainage liens.
• Build your teamwork skills.
• Be flexible to competing work needs.

You will also have the opportunity to train other examiners in the Public Works Contracts process.

Qualifications

This position may be filled at the Excise Tax Examiner 2 level with an in-training appointment or at the Excise Tax Examiner 3 level.

For those hired in-training, you will complete a 12-month training plan designed to give you a foundation of the knowledge you will need to be successful.

At the ETE3 level (range 53 $4602.00 - $6198.00 monthly)

12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting AND

One year as an Excise Tax Examiner 2

Two years of Department of Revenue experience at the journey level in accounting, auditing, compliance, or tax administration, provided 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting course work has been completed.

At the ETE2 level (range 49 $4174.00 - $5615.00 monthly) 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting AND

One year as an Excise Tax Examiner 1

Two years of Department of Revenue experience in accounting, auditing, compliance or tax administration, provided 12 semester (18 quarter) hours of accounting course work has been completed.
