This is a unique opportunity to lead the division’s support of the Department of Pediatrics’ academic goals in research, education, and faculty development.

The Opportunity

The Division Director will provide overall leadership to the Division of Pediatric Neurology, overseeing strategic planning, recruitment, and program development.

This role involves ensuring the integration of training and research programs with clinical services throughout the institution.

The Division Director will lead the division’s support of the Department of Pediatrics’ academic goals in research, education, and faculty development, reporting directly to the Chair of Pediatrics, Dr. Shervin Rabizadeh.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Community Building : Foster a sense of community within the Division of Pediatric Neurology and lead physicians in developing goals related to patient outcomes and safety.
  • Strategic Collaboration : Achieve Medical Center strategic goals through collaboration with Service Line Directors, physician members, Medical Directors, Clinical Care Vice Presidents, nursing leadership, clinical program leaders, division directors, affiliate sites, and the medical staff.
  • Professionalism and Innovation : Exhibit leadership, humanism, and professionalism. Demonstrate motivation and creativity, serving as the administrative leader and a catalyst for effective changes in the division.
  • Research : recruit research faculty and establish a clinical trials program.

The Department

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at Cedars-Sinai is experiencing significant growth and is actively recruiting for new positions, including a new Division Director and 1-2 additional faculty members.

The division currently comprises five faculty members :

  • Jane Tavyev Asher, MD Interim Division Director
  • Deborah Holder, MD Medical Director, Pediatric Epilepsy
  • Michelle R. Allen-Sharpley, MD, PhD Expert in neuromuscular research
  • Jeffrey A. Swarz, MD Pediatric epileptologist
  • Tyler M. Pierson, MD, PhD Specialist in general pediatric neurology and neurogenetics research

Pediatric Epilepsy is a key strength, with the program expanding rapidly. The new Division Director will focus on recruiting research faculty and establishing a clinical trials program.

Collaboration with the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery, led by Drs. Moise Danielpour and David J. Bonda, and the Director of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, Dr.

Cesar Ochoa-Lubinoff, will be essential for comprehensive care.

Cedars-Sinai is recognized for its exceptional pediatric neurology specialists and holds a prominent position in neurosciences among its specialties.

The Pediatric Neurology Division collaborates closely with the adult Neurology and Neurosurgery divisions, enhancing patient care.

The Cedars-Sinai Neurology and Neurosurgery program is ranked #5 in U.S. News and World Report for 2023 2024.

The Ideal Candidate

Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse group, work with the hospital and academic department partners using a collaborative approach, mentor junior faculty and have business skills, including financial budgeting and resource management.

Other qualities include a commitment to excellence in patient care, implementation of innovative patient care programs, experience with strategic program growth and evidence of academic scholarly work.

Education / Certifications

  • Medical Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification in Neurology with special qualification in Child Neurology.
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted California license as a Physician.
  • Eligible for appointment to the appropriate academic rank in the CSMC Professorial Series.
