The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), a Research 1 institution and the flagship institution for the state, is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the collaborative Acquisitions & Continuing Resources team at the University Libraries.

Reporting to the Head, Acquisitions & Continuing Resources, the Electronic Resources Librarian works as a member of a collaborative team where innovative thinking and creative problem solving are highly valued.

This position co-leads the Electronic Resources team within ACR which is responsible for managing the lifecycle of the Libraries’ electronic resources, including the renewing, licensing, preserving, activating, and troubleshooting of electronic resources.

They will supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate 2 FTE. This position will manage the workflows, best practices, and renewal of electronic and subscription resources;

explore new trends and developments related to electronic resources; and be a key participant in the licensing and negotiation team.

This position requires a thorough understanding of licensing, acquiring, evaluating, and supporting ongoing access to electronic resources.

Specific Duties :

  • With the Electronic Resources Manager, co-leads the Electronic Resources team in the management of the UT Libraries’ electronic resources
  • Participates in initiating trials, negotiates license agreements, and maintains license agreements in the library management system (Alma)
  • Leads the negotiating and renewing of electronic resources and participates in the evaluation for renewal / cancellation
  • Guides the Libraries in developing and maintaining awareness of new strategies, emerging technologies, standards, and technical issues relating to electronic resource management
  • Serves as a member of the interdepartmental collections assessment team by providing qualitative and quantitative data about electronic resources
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with various stakeholders within the Libraries, such as Digital Initiatives and Discovery & Technology Solutions, as well as the campus community in support of the Libraries’ strategic vision and overall mission

Research, Scholarship, Creative Activity, and Service :

  • Engages in scholarly activity through publications and presentations
  • Participates in professional activities associated with job functions and research interests
  • Serves on library, university, and professional committees
  • Serves the library profession through involvement in professional organizations and through cooperative efforts with other information professionals

BENEFITS

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with a salary of $63,000. Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment.

Library faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.

Excellent benefits include 24 annual leave days; choice of state retirement plan (TCRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) (VOYA, TIAA) with nonrefundable contributions paid for the employee by the University;

optional group health and life insurance plans. Tuition remission is available for all university employees and partial undergraduate tuition remission is available to dependent children and spouses of UT employees.

Start-up funding in the amount of $10,000 allocated over a three-year period; annual support for travel & professional development.

Required Qualifications :

The successful candidate must exhibit the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals and demonstrate enthusiasm to meet dynamically changing needs within a culture of continuous learning.

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library / Information Science or equivalent degree in relevant discipline by date of appointment
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment
  • Knowledge of the electronic resources lifecycle
  • Knowledge of trends, technologies, and issues with electronic resources and a commitment to keep current with changes
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively and effectively independently, as a team member, and as a leader
  • Evidence of ability to engage in research, publication, and service consonant with the University’s and Libraries’ guidelines for promotion and tenure

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in an academic library setting
  • Ability to participate in license negotiation and workflows
  • Knowledge of copyright, intellectual property, and fair use as they pertain to licensing electronic resources
  • Experience with ExLibris products, knowledge bases, link resolvers, discovery services, and / or proxy servers
  • Knowledge of electronic resources bibliographic and descriptive standards
  • Experience with Excel, PowerBI, or other data analysis and visualization tools
  • Experience working with and maintaining positive relationships with vendors
  • Demonstrated record of publication and professional contribution
