About the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Alaska Behavioral Health

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Alaska Behavioral Health provides high-quality mental healthcare services accessible to post-9 / 11 veterans including National Guard and Reserves, active-duty service members, and their families, including spouse or partner, children, parents, siblings, caregivers, and others.

With a multidisciplinary team of licensed clinicians, prescribers, case managers, intake coordinators, and outreach workers, the clinic operates an outpatient, targeted treatment model with an emphasis on evidence-based practices and measurement-based care.

The Cohen Clinic is part of the Cohen Veterans Network, a national nonprofit (501c3) network of clinics. Our offices are located in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

The CVN Fellow Program

CVN is proud to support early-career, provisionally licensed clinicians in their path towards independent clinical licensure through the CVN Fellows Program.

The CVN Fellows program provides funding for select CVN clinics to hire and host recently graduated or early career masters-level clinicians as they accumulate clinical hours towards independent licensure.

CVN Fellows will operate as clinicians-under-supervision and will receive thorough clinical training and supervision as they build up to and sustain a full therapy caseload.

CVN Fellows are salaried full-time employees of Alaska Behavioral Health. The CVN Fellows program is intended to serve as a pipeline for promising and dedicated provisionally licensed clinicians to become well-trained, capable, and confident independently licensed clinicians.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide evidence-based treatment and assessment for veterans, service members, and their families.
  • Perform and document client screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and progress and referral information.
  • Conduct clinical intake assessments on incoming clients.
  • Provide individual, couples, family, and / or child psychotherapy to clients, focusing on delivering evidence-based treatments.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the larger clinical team (including prescribers, case management, clinic leadership, and other clinicians) as needed to provide the best care to clients.
  • Attend weekly clinical, supervision, and administrative meetings.
  • Provide services via telehealth platform, as required.
  • Engage fully in clinical training opportunities provided.
  • Perform other duties and special projects related to training goals as required.
  • Practice in an ethical, evidence-based, and culturally responsive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Full-Time, Exempt
  • Pay Range is $60,000 to $77,649. Eligible for up to $18,000 in incentive with the average being $7,000.
  • Student Loan Repayment and Tuition Assistance is Available Professional Growth is encouraged! Clinicians participate in regular individual and group supervision and are provided with additional training opportunities as part of our professional development plan.

You will receive two weeks of training annually.

PTO is used for company recognized holidays. 401k with immediate vesting and up to 5% match, 4% automatically contributed by AKBH.

What We Need from You

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program in a therapy / counseling field, including social work, marriage and family therapy, or mental health counseling.
  • Applicants in the final year of a qualifying master's program will be considered. Hire will be contingent on successfully completing the master’s degree.
  • Have and maintain a current associate license to practice psychology, social work, counseling, and / or marriage and family therapy under supervision, in keeping with state- and discipline-specific requirements.
  • Accepted applicants will need to achieve initial associate licensure within 3 months of hire to maintain the Fellow position.
  • A minimum of one year of practicum / internship experience during graduate school providing clinical services to adults, children, couples, and / or families is required.
  • Priority given to applicants having completed their 2nd-year internship at a Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic.
  • Knowledge of DSM-5-TR diagnoses is required.
  • Experience in the diagnosis and / or treatment of common disorders such as PTSD, MDD, and GAD is preferred.
  • Experience working with military populations and / or veterans is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel; PowerPoint and Access are a plus.
  • Knowledge of clinical services and community resources is a plus.
