Government Relations Department

The professionals in Morgan Stanley’s Government Relations function serve as advocates on public policy, legislative and regulatory issues that are important to the Firm.

They co-ordinate closely with stakeholders across the Firm on policy initiatives and legislative matters at the state, national and international levels to help Morgan Stanley manage and grow its businesses.

This includes working with legislators, regulators, and other public officials to ensure that the concerns of Morgan Stanley are heard and understood and engaging closely with industry trade associations to represent the varied interests of the Firm.

What will you be doing?

Morgan Stanley is seeking an experienced professional to strengthen the Government Relations function in EMEA, with a focus on the European Union and key EU member states.

The successful candidate will work closely with a broad range of stakeholders across EMEA and globally. The role will include the following primary responsibilities :

  • Monitoring and analysis of European public policy issues and political developments affecting the Firm.
  • Providing guidance on the direction and substance of policy developments and potential impacts on the Firm. The focus will be principally on the EU but will also include Member State developments as appropriate.
  • Developing advocacy strategies and helping to coordinate responses to public consultations.
  • Providing briefs to senior management e.g. for their interactions with the public sector and speaking engagements.
  • Supporting and advising on the Firm’s business relationships with the public sector in the EU.
  • Proactively advising business and infrastructure units on the likely impacts of specific policy proposals.
  • Discussing regulatory and political matters with the Firm’s clients, bilaterally and through client seminars etc.
  • Representing the Firm’s concerns and interests vis-à-vis policymakers at EU level, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member State representations, ESMA (etc.

and at national level as appropriate.

Representing the Firm at industry groups and trade associations (such as AFME).
