About the Position
The Solid Waste Services Division of Edmond Public Works provides waste collection and disposal services to residential households and commercial establishments within Edmond.
Services include collection of weekly waste, curbside recycling, monthly bulk items, and city-coded bag disposal.
The Solid Waste Truck Driver will perform skilled work by operating heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks. They are responsible for operating and maintaining a heavy-duty refuse collection truck equipped with a hydraulic powered packer and dump;
transporting waste loads to the landfill and / or transfer station for disposal; and maintaining, repairing, and delivering refuse containers requiring some assembly and sub-assembly processes.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty packer refuse collection trucks
- Dump residential carts or commercial style containers into the truck
- Transport waste to the transfer station, which may include servicing roll off containers
- Leave notifications for customers and report to supervisor regarding violations of regulations
- Read & understand route sheets to determine street address & type of services needed
- Leave notice messages and / or instructions to homeowners about special services
- Maintain equipment by performing minor vehicle maintenance, such as checking tire inflation, cleaning the cab, and washing the truck’s exterior
- Report any maintenance needs to the supervisor or to the garage
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
- Two years related experience in solid waste management (preferred)
- Valid Class "B" Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements (preferred) For those without a CDL license, the City of Edmond can provide financial assistance in obtaining a CDL License.
- Driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interpret instructions and respond to customers
- Basic mathematical skills
- Ability to operate required machinery
- Ability to learn proper operation of front load, roll off, & fork truck containers
- Ability to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally), and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
