Adult Services Program Coordinator- Library Services
Schedule :
Monday 11 : 00 am 8 : 00 pm
Tuesday / Wednesday 8 : 00 am 5 : 00 pm
Thursday 9 : 00 am 6 : 00 pm
Friday 8 : 00 am 5 : 00 pm
Saturday 9 : 00 am 1 : 00 pm (as needed)
Schedule may be adjusted due to the needs of the organization
Reports to Director, Cultural Enrichment
Distinguishing Features of the Class
The Adult Services Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, executing and evaluating adult programming that meets the needs of the community.
Works with various community organizations and other outside vendors to bring in speakers and presenters, virtually and in-person.
Assists in promoting the collection and services through creative displays, bibliographies; print / online marketing. Develops and executes the library book club.
May participate in community events and other outreach opportunities as needed. Works the Adult Service desk as assigned.
Essential Duties and Tasks
- Plans, organizes, and executes library programs for adults 18+ inclusive of a wide age range of new adults through senior citizens.
- Organizes and publicizes a wide variety of weekly and monthly adult programs through activities and outreach, including the KM Community Garden and local author fair.
- Contributes relevant material to the Library’s web presence, including the creation of new and original content for library social media.
- Track program attendance, circulation, and other data to guide decision-making and to identify service needs.
- Prepare monthly reports and contributes to the annual State Library Report
- Identify and recommend services and products for the Library.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community and library organizations and agencies, library vendors and representatives.
- Complete special assignments related to adult services as directed.
- Contribute to marketing and communication promotions and regular communications to patrons
- Works the Adult service desk as scheduled executing all ciirculation and reference tasks as needed
- Provides readers' advisory service
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of library procedures, methods, materials and practices
- Read English and sort in alphanumeric order
- Know the Dewey Decimal System
- Working knowledge of library collections, reader’s advisory, library circulation procedures and research skills
- Knowledge of and / or interest in popular materials, programming and services for adults.
- Ability to learn new technology and equipment, apply this to job duties and train others on how to use it.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, establish and maintain priorities, meet deadlines, exercise initiative and make independent decisions.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and the ability to work with co-workers in a pleasant manner.
- Ability to represent the library in a professional manner.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, fingering, talking, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to push / pull 100 pounds carts and lift boxes weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to carry 20 pounds up two flights of stairs.
Must possess the visual acuity to maintain records, read book spines, count monies, and operate a computer.
Work is performed primarily indoors though some programming is held off site. Almost all tasks involve continuous standing.
May encounter situations that involve behavioral issues. Varied work hours, including weekends and evenings, which may change periodically.
Desirable Training and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree with preference given to candidates with a Masters in Library Science; at least two years of library experience is required with preference given for a candidate with considerable experience in a library.
