The Sr Commercial Banker will be directly responsible for sourcing and establishing new business member deposit and small business loan relationships, while incorporating treasury management solutions and other revenue producing banking products and services.

The ongoing business development efforts will be focused primarily on small to mid-sized businesses located within the GLCU servicing area, as well as local municipalities, institutions, and professional trade associations.

Once a new relationship is established, the Sr Commercial Banker will be expected to provide a white glove’ business member relationship experience, while continuing to explore additional opportunities to deepen the existing relationship.

The successful candidate must be highly skilled in structuring and recommending customized business deposit and financing solutions for a wide variety of member banking needs.

The Sr Commercial Banker is expected to maintain a strong presence in the local marketplace and will leverage their COI’s and referral networks by proactively interacting with accountants, attorneys, insurance agents, commercial real estate brokers, community leaders, etc.

In addition, the Sr Commercial Banker will help champion the development of GLCU’s comprehensive business banking program, including the development of related business banking products and services.

The Sr Commercial Banker will be directly responsible for maintaining an active pipeline, individually tracking, measuring, and reporting business development efforts and results.

The individual in this role will be expected to develop and implement a proven business development and sales prospecting plan to ensure successful completion of assigned goals and objectives.

The successful candidate will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, with an innate self-starter mentality and demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales goals as a proven top-tier individual contributor.

As a Sr Commercial Banker, you will :

  • Grow business member relationships by successfully prospecting and sourcing new business member deposit and credit opportunities and working to expand existing business member relationships.
  • Approximately 75% of your time will be spent in-the-market’ proactively raising awareness and promoting the credit union’s value proposition and generating new business opportunities by meeting with prospects, pursuing outbound calling efforts, attending networking functions and similar community events.
  • Maintain an active business referral network, working closely with Centers of Influence (COI), including accountants, lawyers, commercial real estate brokers, insurance agents and community leaders.
  • Collaborate with other lines of business within GLCU, including, but not limited to : Retail, Residential Mortgage, Consumer Lending to help cross-sell products and services, including business credit cards and merchant card services.
  • Assist with monitoring the small business loan portfolio to minimize and / or eliminate any exceptions, past due notices, and maintaining overall credit quality.
  • Assist with credit and non-credit risk profiles for select business member relationships by monitoring, identifying, recommending, and implementing enhanced profitability solutions when needed.
  • Assist the other Commercial Lending team members in support of overall team objectives.
  • Actively participate in strategic GLCU projects, applicable team activities, select community events, and related business development activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and adhering to all of GLCU’s policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively motivate others to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to implement strong time management, organizational and planning skills to effectively prioritize goal objectives over competing responsibilities.

Requirements needed to be part of this team :

  • Certified Treasury Professional designation, preferred
  • Five years to eight years of similar or related experience
  • Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field)
  • The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, along with obtaining cooperation.
  • Must be highly proficient in MS Office tools including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Makes daily operational decisions but requires concurrence on out of budget or other strategic direction.
  • Problems involve in-depth analysis and evaluation where extensive innovative thinking or creativity required.
  • Noticeable Impact - decisions would have a noticeable impact on current organization goals and objectives.
