General Summary

The Office of Watershed Protection requires a Project Coordinator with knowledge of stormwater management to support the Division of Environmental Planning with the planning and execution of green infrastructure projects.

This is an entry- to junior-level position charged with the responsibility of working with project teams to coordinate green infrastructure and stream restoration projects, support community outreach efforts related to specific projects and initiatives and provide technical assistance in the areas of environmental science, engineering, natural resource management, urban design, landscape architecture, and / or other applicable fields.

Supervision Received

The Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Watershed Manager I and obtain additional oversight from the Watershed Director and Environmental Program Coordinators within the Office of Watershed Protection, Division of Environmental Planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and Project Coordination :

  • Assist Project Managers and technical leads with project coordination related to green infrastructure and stream restoration projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, other DWM Offices and City of Atlanta Departments, and external organizations to plan and implement projects.
  • Assist leadership in identifying opportunities for integrating and coordinating watershed improvement or property management activities across Offices and Divisions.

Community Outreach :

  • Gather and organize community outreach materials to be disseminated to project stakeholders.
  • Work with the Office of Communications & Community Relations to prepare external communications, including but not limited to presentations, posters, brochures, and signage.
  • Support Project Managers and technical leads with Community Outreach efforts; may require attending evening or weekend events.

Technical Assistance :

  • Apply technical knowledge in environmental science, engineering, landscape architecture, and / or natural resource management to provide departmental resources.
  • Assist with the identification of areas for green infrastructure implementation and other watershed protection activities.

  • Knowledge of planning, design, and project management principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in the use of software to create well-structured reports, spreadsheets, presentations, proposals, and other documents.
  • Skilled in preparing effective and strong oral and written communication.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to complete assigned tasks on time.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels, as well as with the public.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to ensure Division and Departmental goals are met.
  • Self-driven and ability to work independently when required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, landscape architecture, natural resource management, urban planning, or related field
  • Experience related to water quality, stormwater management, and / or green infrastructure

Preferred Education & Experience

  • 2+ years of experience working on green infrastructure or natural resources management projects
  • Knowledge of plant communities native to the Georgia Piedmont and invasive species management
  • Experience in communications and / or public outreach
  • Social media skills

Licensures and Certifications

None required. Professional certifications related to project management, sustainability, and / or water management preferred.

Essential Capabilities and Work Environment

Ability to travel to local project sites, potentially with short notice. Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
