Non-Union Classified hourly, Grade 6

40 hours per week

BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

Responsible for day to day processing and implementation of human resources functions and general employee support services for Kent Intermediate School District.

This position plays a lead role in supporting special education center program personnel functions, including the implementation of the applicable collective bargaining agreement terms.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists Department administration in the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Office, with a focus on supporting Special Education Center Programs.
  • Maintains and updates digital personnel records on assigned District staff.
  • Assists District personnel with issues related to employment, handbooks, policies, administrative guidelines and master agreements.
  • Assists with highly confidential correspondence, recommendations and documents.
  • Authorizes necessary medical treatment for staff injured at work, primary contact for worker’s compensation process. Files claims, coordinates benefits, completes reports and records.
  • Gathers and organizes Human Resources information and records, as needed, and distributes Human Resources materials to proper departments.
  • Assists in the preparation of Human Resources reports, handbooks and employee database information.
  • Obtains, gathers and organizes pertinent data as needed and assembles such data in usable form.
  • Conducts new staff onboarding procedures.
  • Calculate payroll adjustments based on contracts, process miscellaneous payments, initiate payroll adjustments based on employee leaves, etc.
  • Works in collaboration with the Business Office on essential functions such as financial system budget projections, new contract amounts, and annual updating or rollovers, as needed.
  • In consultation with administration, stays current on new federal, state and local regulations as they pertain to District personnel matters.
  • Performs a range of office clerical routines and practices associated with a productive and efficiently-run office, with attention to accuracy and details.
  • Works with District staff to ensure accurate leave information and provides information to staff members regarding leave availability and use.

Assist HR team members with FMLA and medical leaves of absence information, as necessary.

  • Lead or assist with compliance pertaining to employee criminal background checks through the Michigan State Police.
  • Performs various other duties as requested by Human Resources administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED :

Demonstrated experience in human resources or related field, preferably in educational environment; requires high level of discretion, integrity, technical skills including secretarial and technology skills.

A college degree is strongly preferred.

High level of communications and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, constituent districts and general public.

  • Knowledge of (and / or ability to learn and apply) organizational operations, policies, procedures and practices as well as state and federal employment rules and regulations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently as well as schedule and produce work in a timely manner; ability to comprehend and transmit complicated and detailed instructions.
  • Ability to operate effectively in environment requiring handling of confidential / sensitive information.
  • Ability to maintain organized and accurate filing systems both electronically and in hard copy, as required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and commitment to collaboration within and across departments, with a high level of professional discretion and integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while prioritizing based on timelines.
  • Ability to accurately determine basic mathematical and monetary calculations related to personnel functions.
