The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Managing Director of the NSF Engineering Research Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3), the Engineering Workforce Development Manager will serve as an expert collaborator and leader in the development and implementation of projects for all of CS3’s educational activities.

Under the leadership of CS3 Workforce Development Co-Directors, the incumbent will work closely with the CS3 administrative team, faculty, and other members of the CS3 community to ensure CS3 education programs run smoothly according to the timeline determined by the CS3 Executive Committee, meet key milestones and successfully produce impactful deliverables and outcomes.

Responsibilities

30%) Management :

  • Manage a project timetable and a meeting schedule for CS3’s education activities to ensure project progress and success;
  • Regularly check in with CS3 workforce development leadership team members to collect project updates and to offer administrative support;
  • Manage the list of current collaborations, active conversations, new initiatives, and upcoming deadlines / milestones for CS3’s workforce development activities;
  • Serve as liaison with other synergistic educational activities across the university (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Arts and Sciences, GSAPP, DSI, SIPA, etc);
  • Implement and track efforts to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion across the education program.

25%) Academic Affairs :

  • Manage curriculum development and course offerings at all CS3 institutions;
  • Lead content delivery with certain educational programs, for example, with K-12 students and teachers;
  • Oversee the recruitment of interns and qualified course assistants;
  • Manage the CS3 Student Leadership Council;
  • Lead efforts that recruit and support participants for student and teacher research experience programs;
  • Oversee the submission and processing of course syllabi and micro-credential proposals for departmental and school approvals at Columbia.

20%) Events :

  • Manage efforts for the organization of educational events, such as train the trainer workshops, research experience programs’ poster sessions, and other informal learning events;
  • Liaise with university IT & facilities personnel to set up and secure CS3 educational event A / V equipment / resources for both virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, including securing venues, coordinating technology needs, setting up classroom space / events, reserving equipment and services as needed;
  • Fulfill reporting needs for all internal and external constituents to assure accurate data for assessment of all events;
  • Manage marketing and advertisements for upcoming events and projects;
  • Manage registration and event communications.

15%) Relations :

  • Manage CS3 leadership by facilitating and coordinating collaborations with education partners inside and outside Columbia, including technical support for CS3’s education activities, bridge programs, diversity pipeline contacts, research experience programs for students, professional development, and internship programs;
  • Collaborate with potential partners (employers, research labs, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, etc.

10%) Evaluation :

  • Manage CS3’s Evaluator for the evaluation of CS3’s educational activities, including documentation, disseminating surveys, organizing focus groups, etc;
  • Compile, analyze, and track efforts to enhance diversity and culture of inclusion progress for CS3 education and workforce development activities;
  • In coordination with CS3’s Evaluator, assess submissions of evidence for all course assessment data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and / or its equivalent required, with a preference for training in education or relevant fields;
  • 3-5 years of related experience in educational programming;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in education program development and management;
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented with a proven track record of taking initiative and prioritizing tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform non-routine work, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work independently, as well as within teams;
  • Proficient in Google productivity applications (Google docs, drive, presentation), Slack, Program Management tools (e.g.
  • Asana), MS Office, virtual events / webinars, and Internet utilization;
  • Ability to use independent judgment to make decisions and guide projects, balancing the center’s mission and long-term program / project goals while also attending closely to immediate needs;
  • Flexibility and adaptability when presented with unexpected changes of course; willingness to fill a need or solve a problem through creative initiative that strategically advances with partnerships, programs, and priorities;
  • Strategic initiative-taking skills, especially in problem-solving, and anticipating / mitigating risks;
  • Flexibility in schedule, including work at off-site locations (schools and community sites), as well as some evening / weekend work;
  • Ability to travel to programs and visit potential venues, including the Bronx and Harlem, NY;
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and implementing science education initiatives and events;
  • Ability to cultivate relationships among faculty, students, partners, and other participants;
  • Familiarity with data analysis, visualization of learning outcomes, and evaluation is a plus.
