The Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE) is an educational program within the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI).

For nearly 50 years, SPICE has served as a bridge between scholarship at FSI / Stanford with K 12 schools and community colleges in the United States and schools abroad (Japan and China).

SPICE works primarily in four areas : (1) curriculum development; (2) teacher professional development; (3) online teaching; and (4) research.

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Instructional Designer will offer online course on China and U.S. China relations for high school students in the United States in the fall, and an online course on climate solutions for high school students in the United States and China in the spring.

These two courses are part of the China Scholars Program (CSP) that are offered through the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE), a program of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.

The Instructional Designer will also help to coordinate teacher professional development programs in China and the United States.

This recruitment is for a one (1) year fixed-term, 75% FTE benefits-eligible position which begins on the start date and may be renewable in the future based on funding availability.

CORE DUTIES :

Perform analysis of learning and business needs.

Proactively consult with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content.

Design learning and performance support solutions.

Draft storyboards and prototypes.

Design and develop course content, instructor and participant materials, including performance support materials.

Implement, evaluate and maintain learning solutions.

Develop and deliver Train-the-Trainer or faculty development programs.

May participate in extensive user acceptance testing and quality measurement for newly created courses and web materials.

Interact with vendor during design, development and implementation process as needed.

Share best practices through cross campus collaboration and instructional design community

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Education & Experience :

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend sound solutions.

Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.

Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.

Ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves retention rates.

Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods.

Demonstrated proficiency and experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create impactful courses.

Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Frequently stand / walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly / fine manipulation.

Occasionally reach / work above shoulders, twist / bend / stoop / squat, grasp forcefully, lift / carry / push / pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort / file paperwork.

Rarely kneel / crawl, operate foot and / or hand controls.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures . The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

The expected pay range for this position is $59,000 to $89,000 per annum for a remote position. This is a 75% FTE position.

The expected pay range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 per annum for a hybrid or on-site position. This is a 75% FTE position.
