Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for an IT Network Support Specialist. The IT Network Specialist should be an experienced Network Specialist with prior work experience in a Higher Education environment who works on the design, maintenance, and management of the University's global enterprise network systems.
The position involves receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving network and technical support requests from clients in a timely manner.
The job also involves talking to clients on the telephone, communicating via email and chat, and servicing clients' onsite and in-person, while working in a busy (sometimes high pressure) support environment.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to enjoy working with people and have excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. AA / EOE
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related field
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or Cisco CCNET are highly desired
- Minimum of five to eight years professional network technical support and network engineering experience.
- Excellent attitude, phone etiquette, written and verbal communication and people skills
- Ability to properly prioritize, see to completion, multiple projects and commitments while accurately tracking time management
- Willing to work outside normal office hours when required

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science information technology, computer science or a closely related field.
- Higher Ed or Public sector cyber security and network ops / engineering experience
- At Least two years of system administration, which includes development of network and security architectures for enterprise grade environment
Special Requirements Summary
- 5+ years' IT Support experience (Absolutely Required), MSP experience a plus
- Knowledge of local and wide area networks
- Ability to understand network monitoring concepts and best practices
- Ability to perform developmental assignments, operations, or procedures
- Skill in applying IT technical work
- Skills will be developed in communication with the user for problem resolution and the timely processing of all requirements
- Ability to work within a teamwork environment and embrace collaboration
- Knowledge of LAN, WAN and Wireless networks
- Skill in monitoring network capacity and performance
- Ability to implement, upgrade and maintain existing and new systems
- Experience optimizing the functionality of networks and systems
- Advanced understanding of operating systems (Microsoft Windows 10, 8, 7, OS X, iOS and Android), Office 2010 / 2013 / 2016 / 2019
- Advanced understanding of Windows Server operating systems (Microsoft Server 2008 through 2019)
- Advanced understanding and troubleshooting of Microsoft desktop application
- Working experience in a Remote Desktop / Terminal Server environment
- Working experience with Office365 and Google Apps, including mailbox management
- Working experience with VoIP systems Advanced knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, basic networking concepts and Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic understanding of domain-based networks, file and print sharing, email and Web application servers
- Basic knowledge of mobile devices and tablets and mobile device management
- Basic Active Directory management as it relates to user account administration, security and distribution groups
- Hands-on working experience with routers, firewalls, switches, VPN devices and wireless and other networking technologies, including TCP / IP, DNS & DHCP
Work Hours
Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned; some evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required; on call rotation may be required

Knowledge, Education, Experience, and Proficiencies
- The incumbent is responsible for resolving user trouble tickets, and for providing consulting services to the director, network administrator, database analyst, for specifically difficult problems
- Troubleshoot network connectivity, server connections, PC hardware and software to determine the cause of failure
- Conduct installations and implementation of new system hardware and software and develops standard operating procedures
- Conduct testing to insure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing procedures and regulations as needed
- Maintain constant system quality control to ensure that regulatory and security requirements are met
- Gather statistical and other pertinent data to ensure that Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards of service are being met
- Work with technical support personnel in various groups resolving critical and provide technical advice to users
- Manages network fabric within the data center and works with the security and network teams to recommend firewall, routing and ACL configurations
- Manages the data center environment, including electrical supply, power redundancy, cooling, and fire suppression
- Develops and advocates for networking standards, policies, procedures, best practices, configurations, settings, installation / back-out sequences, etc.
