Salary Range : The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and / or step.
The base pay range for this position is $142,800 - $500,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position Description
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Spine Surgeon to join our team.

Responsibilities :
- Perform complex spine surgeries, including reconstructions, traumatic spine care, and minimally invasive procedures.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, and radiologists to provide comprehensive care to patients with spine disorders.
- Develop and implement evidence-based care pathways and clinical practice guidelines for spine surgery patients.
- Participate in the American Spine Registry, a national quality improvement registry for spine care.
- Collect and analyze performance measurement data on surgical site infection rates, new neurological deficits, unplanned return visits to the operating room, and pre-operative and post-operative patient reported outcomes.
- Participate in educational and research activities, including teaching and mentoring residents and fellows, and contributing to the advancement of spine surgery through research and publication.
- Participate in research activities, including clinical trials and basic science research, to advance the field of spine surgery.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)
- Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, DO or MD / PhD in health-related fields.
- Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification / permit determined by the Medical Board of California.
- Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Additional Qualifications (required at time of start)
Candidates must have completed a fellowship program in Spine Surgery by the time of start of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with at least 2 years of experience in complex spine reconstructions, traumatic spine injuries, and minimally invasive spine surgery are preferred.
