Description
Serves as a program coordinator and consultant to staff a multi-disciplinary health care team. Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a cost-effective system of care for trauma patients and their families throughout the continuum of care which adheres to the requirements outlined by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for trauma designation.
Principle Responsibilities
Provides leadership in Trauma Program Coordination.Acquires knowledge of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) trauma designation, understands and ensures on-going compliance with MDH trauma designation requirements.
Interprets and implements policies and procedures; makes recommendations for revisions; assists with updating policies and procedures.
Participates in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to trauma care.Participates in trauma meetings within Allina and on a regional level.
Works with departments to resolve inefficiencies related to trauma care.Oversees staff adherence to policies, procedures and standards through observation, medical record review, feedback and other appropriate sources.
Completes MDH recertification process (on-line application and on-site survey). Coordinates and prepares for MDH trauma designation site visits.
Oversees program initiativesDevelops collaborative relationships with departments to facilitate and support quality trauma care.
Represents the Trauma Program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management.
Participates in Allina, state and regional trauma care activities to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management.Responds to trauma team activations that occur during work hours;
function in whatever role necessary to assist the team in the care of the patient.Serves as a resource for staff and physicians regarding trauma care.
Assesses and improves departmental performance for the care of trauma patients.Seeks ways to improve trauma care using performance improvement tactics.
Utilizes issues / trends identified following trauma case reviews and trauma activations.Monitors performance of staff involved with the care of trauma patients and provide feedback.
Monitors trauma patient outcomes; evaluate for trends.Serves as the point person for the identification, investigation and follow-up of incidents and quality issues while maintaining confidentiality.
Ensures the accuracy of the trauma registry.
Plan, coordinate and evaluate trauma-related educational programs for staff.Monitors physician and nurse compliance with the educational requirements of the trauma program.
Ensures staff involved in the care of trauma patients meets educational requirements of the trauma program.Develops, coordinates and implements orientation, nursing education, and in-service programs related to care and management of trauma patients.
Seeks and pursues opportunities for internal and external trauma-related education for staff.
- Participates in community outreach to identify opportunities for injury prevention programs in the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Vocational degree in Nursing
- 3+ years of providing Patient care in an acute care setting involving care of trauma patients
- 0 to 2 years of data analysis and performance improvement development
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- 0 to 2 years of experience in clinical education
Licenses / Certifications
- Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required
- TNCC-Trauma Nursing Core Course - Allina Health required
- ACLS / BLS Tier 2-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Multisource required
- PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support - Multisource required if providing pediatric care
