Position Summary

FACES for the Future Coalition is a health career pathway program designed to work with underserved high school students interested in careers in health, public health, mental and behavioral health, and global health.

Originally founded in 2000 at Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland, the program has been replicated throughout California and has begun national expansion.

Our work at Public Health Institute includes new program development, providing technical assistance for existing FACES programs, curriculum development and overall program evaluation.

The FACES for the Future Coalition has developed two academic year programs in San Francisco, in partnership with John O’Connell High School and Phillip & Sala Burton High School, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Department of Public Health, University of California San Francisco, and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

Summer program planning is underway in SF.

The FACES for the Future Coalition is looking for a Program Coordinator for the FACES program in San Francisco. This person will be primarily responsible for the planning, coordination and supervision of daily operations for both academic and summer programming.

This includes implementation and supervision of clinical and non-clinical work-based learning placements with community partners, academic support and mentoring, and coordination of the wellness program for students.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all students meet the program expectations regarding training, performance, rules and behavior.

The Program Coordinator will work to guarantee that program materials are current and relevant, that operations run in a smooth and effective manner, and that open and regular communication exists with all program partners and stakeholders including health care professionals, health agency administration, school administration, teachers, students and families.

The Program Coordinator will lead the coordination of projects and workplans in collaboration with other FACES Program Coordinator(s).

The Program Coordinator will be trained and managed by the FACES for the Future Program Manager and Deputy Director at Public Health Institute.

This is a regular full-time hybrid position that is required to work remotely and in person at school sites in the San Francisco area where student activities take place.

Full salary range for this position : $62,968 to $90,167 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $62,968 (minimum) to $76,568 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE.

The starting salary is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Works with other FACES Program Coordinator(s) to coordinate workplans and maintain daily oversight and evaluation of FACES for the Future students.
• Acts as consistent mentor and caring adult for FACES students.
• Provides leadership and project coordination for the FACES SF program, guiding the team’s work with students in alignment with oversight from the Program Manager.
• Works with FACES Program Coordinator(s) to lead planning for special events and offsite experiences for students.
• Works with other Program Coordinator and key stakeholders to develop, coordinate, maintain and evaluate work-based learning for FACES students.
• Establishes and maintains strong relationships with health professionals providing supervision.
• Maintains and tracks student records including health clearances, attendance, and academics.
• Works in very close association with education partners, including being a presence in the classroom and capacity building on-site for teaching staff.
• Schedules, facilitates and teaches workshops for students focused on professional development, college preparation, wellness and other pertinent topics including the training necessary for work-based learning, including recruiting guest speakers from health and community partners.
• Communicates effectively with all stakeholders and partners, including families.
• Coordinates and participates in community outreach efforts of the FACES for the Future program, including the SF FACES Program Advisory Committee, and attends all other relevant meetings with stakeholders.
• Coordinates FACES events including the Blue Coat Ceremony, Graduation, field trips and other events.
• Participates in events at John O’Connell High School and Phillip & Sala Burton High School designed to promote the health pathways including, but not limited to, health fairs, recruitment events and community showcases.
• Responsible for recruiting students, providing training to prepare for internships and work-based learning, and coordinating all necessary steps to on-board into work-based learning including health screenings, etc.
• Works with FACES Coalition leadership to coordinate the activities of the AmeriCorps VISTA member assigned to the SF site.
• Works in tandem with the mission and goals of the FACES for the Future best practice program model.
• Maintains and organizes adequate documentation, databases and all program materials, including, but not limited to, student information, curriculum, workshops and evaluation.

Completes progress reports and updates as required.

• Participates in FACES Coalition team meetings as necessary.
• Commute to various locations within a work day for community outreach, FACES events and health pathways including, but not limited to, health fairs, recruitment events, and community showcases, and to attend meetings with health employer partners as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the FACES Coalition Program Manager and Deputy Director.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3 years of related work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.

Other Qualifications

• Bi-lingual / Multi-lingual candidates highly preferred.
• Experience with program implementation a plus.
• General knowledge of current health care delivery systems, both hospital-based and community-based as well as general knowledge of careers and pathways for health, public health, mental and behavioral health, and global health.
• Experience working with high school aged youth and in particular under-represented youth populations is essential. Understanding of and commitment to trauma-informed care learning environments needed.
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills, problem solving, dependability and integrity.
• Ability to manage multiple types of relationships in professional, educational and outreach settings including moving effortlessly between relationships with students and families, educators and health professionals.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Must be flexible, adaptable and responsive to changing work priorities.
• Strong verbal and written skills.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point (Microsoft Office).
• Ability to take initiative toward improving the overall success of the program.
• Familiarity with San Francisco health and academic landscape a plus.
• Must be community oriented and highly motivated. Experience working with and / or for non-profits organizations is helpful.
• Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to commute to various locations within a work day for community outreach, FACES events, and health pathways including, but not limited to, health fairs, recruitment events, and community showcases, and to attend meetings with health employer partners as required.
• Must be able to pass background checks required for this job.
