Preferred Qualifications
- Working experience in VetView (the Teaching Hospital's Medical software application)
- 1-3 years of experience supervising a financial services staff
- Experience working with clients on payment solutions for services rendered
Position Summary
The Financial Services Manager oversees and participates in the daily operation and management of the Financial Services unit.
This position monitors and reports on key metrics such as cash collections and outstanding balances in addition to establishing adequate controls to ensure that hospital charges are billed to patients timely and accurately.
This position supervises the Financial Services staff of the front office by tracking and evaluating daily activities, including daily deposit processes and record auditing for accuracy.
The manager enforces proper accounting methods and policies and principles to meet the financial objectives of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
This position is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling and maintaining consistent performance management monitoring of direct reports.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies
- Knowledge of accounting principles relating to service based business processes necessary relating to : accounts payable, receivables, debits / credits , auditing charges and reconciling accounts.
- Above average computer skills in utilizing software platforms to generate and gather data, in addition to analyzing information to problem solve.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, be decisive and able to maintain professional communication with all levels of decision makers and stockholders within the hospital.
Physical Demands
- Lift 35 lbs. and be willing to travel to interoffice departments to communicate or deliver materials.
- Travel within campus range or locally to pick up materials.
- Repetitive motions and actions.
- Typing on a keyboard and viewing a computer screen for extended periods of time.

- Develops, implements, monitors, and analyzes all functions of the business office and how it ties to the Revenue Cycle.
- Monitors and reports on key metrics such as cash collections, days outstanding, unbilled, etc., in conjunction with VTH Finance Leadership.
This person establishes adequate controls to ensure that Hospital charges are billed timely and accurately.
The FS Manager maintains effective communication with internal / external customers to resolve issues that impede cash flow and / or detract from client satisfaction.

- Supervise the financial services staff. This involves direct supervision for the cashiers in small animal front area, auditor, accounts receivable specialists and accounting specialist and indirectly the Large Animal Hospital cashier and the Pet Health Center cashiers.
- Oversee, track, and evaluate day-to-day activities, including daily deposit processes, record auditing for accuracy, answering procedural questions from clerical staff, providing financial guidance to hospital personnel regarding client accounts, billing adjustments and payment.
- Enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles to meet the financial objectives of the VTH .
- Maintain client confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential, specifically by enforcing PCI compliance with credit card transactions.

- Manage the hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation and performance management of the direct reports in the Small Animal Hospital.
- Facilitate excellent staff performance by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results;
coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
Review, complete and approve all components associated with payroll for direct reports.
