Job Purpose
The Help Desk Senior System Administrator manages the overall operations of the help desk, including maintaining both servers and workstations.
Responsibilities include configuring hardware and software, monitoring system performance, responding to help desk tickets, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.
The Senior System Administrator also supervises junior help desk staff, provides user account management, and ensures data integrity through backups and regular maintenance.
Schedule is 0700-1600, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities
The job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following :
- Coordinating the needs of in-house IT experts and remote employees, vendors and contractors.
- Design, install and configure internal and customer facing servers, network devices and firewalls.
- Configure internal systems.
- Proactively manage and maintain server, network and firewall systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans.
- Design and implement monitoring, configuration management and reporting functions that will make a hands-off environment.
- Define and document best practices and support procedures.
- Upgrade the network infrastructure.
- Train new system users and set up their accounts.
- Monitor the performance of servers, software and hardware.
- Ensure the smooth deployment of new applications.
- Update technical documentation.
- Assist with hardware, firewall, telecom and software vendor evaluation, recommendation and negotiations.
- Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation.
- Mentor / cross train team members on existing and new technologies.
- Interact with customers and staff at the technical level, as required.
- Installing, configuring and monitoring wireless network system.
- Carry out special tasks at Management's direction
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing servers and workstations.
- Experience leading a complex help desk or system administration function.
- Must maintain DoD Cyber Workforce (DCWF) baseline and computing environment certifications as required by DoDM 8570.01 and DoDM 8140.03.
- Proficiency in managing Active Directory and providing technical support to end-users.
- Work experience as a Senior System Administrator
- Good knowledge of at least one scripting language
- Solid understanding of LAN / WAN networks
- Knowledge of system security techniques
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- Team management abilities
