Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Development is responsible for organizing, supervising and coordinating all aspects of the student services programs related to career placement, student activities, health services, community outreach and disability support services and oversees student publications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*

  • Assumes the leadership role for the administration for one or more student program areas including student orientation, leadership development programs, and prospective student or community campus tours for their supported campus.
  • Assists in the preparation of a budget and administers that budget as approved.
  • Promotes an integrated effort in the administration of the campus by cooperating and coordinating with other administrators and staff when appropriate.
  • Serves on committees as directed and attends appropriate professional meetings.
  • Works creatively with students, staff, and college personnel in developing education, wellness, engagement, and other activity programs for students.
  • Coordinates the development of student programs, which complement the college’s educational goal.
  • Assists in the planning, developing, and promoting of ways and means of improving student programs.
  • Provides a climate for ongoing evaluation of their supported area.
  • Keeps open effective channels of communication with students, faculty, and staff.

General Supervision and Management

Supervises staff and may be responsible for various departmental units of the campus.

Service Excellence

  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements.
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC).
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College.

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five (5) years experience related to Essential Performance requirements.
  • Three (3) years’ experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others).

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years’ working experience in Academic Advising.
  • At least two (2) years supervisory experience in Student Development Services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with various populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication.
  • Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Special Instructions Summary

Work hours are 8 am 5 pm with one late day 10 am -7 pm shift each week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
