Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Electrician Maintenance Mechanic for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O).
The position is primarily responsible for the planning and coordination of such electrical duties as the installation and repair of wiring, fixtures, lighting, control and alarm systems, etc.
Among the key duties of this position are the following :
- Repairs and maintains generators and motors. Installs electrical conduits.
- Assists in work on switch gear and wiring for 480 volts systems.
- Cleans shop and work areas.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary.
- Conducts inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Advises management when to reorder stock.
- Responsible for estimating work time, writing up lists of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for him / herself or the group.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.

Certifications / Licenses
- A valid driver’s license with two years driving experience is necessary.
- Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
- Must be a qualified journeyman electrician registered with the State of New Jersey.
- Must maintain journeyman certification while in job title.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be competent in performing complex and varied repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and circuitry including industrial power wiring.
