Your Opportunity

As a Civil Engineer in Training in our Community Development - Renewable Energy Group in Chicago, Illinois, you will have the chance to work on innovative renewable energy projects that positively impact communities.

This role involves assisting in the planning, design, and implementation of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage systems.

You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, project managers, and other team members to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform civil design and technical tasks on projects under the supervision of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project.
  • Perform field work / construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer / designer and / or construction manager.
  • Perform data analysis and calculations to analyze and design civil system components.
  • Collect data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability and interest in working on a variety of renewables (solar, wind, etc.) type of projects for various clients.
  • Seeking a motivated individual who is enthusiastic, flexible, innovative, organized, and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of general concepts of civil engineering design.
  • Desire to work on projects with a focus on sustainability and green infrastructure.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs and other similar materials.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and take direction.
  • Strong interest in community development engineering disciplines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Successful completion of the EIT exam or the ability to take the EIT exam within six months of starting.

Related Co-op / Internship experience preferred for new graduates; 1-2 years of related civil engineering experience for more experienced engineers.
