Overview
Halifax Health is seeking a Director of Payroll for the Accounting Department.
Summary
Directs, reviews and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the payroll functions of
recording hours of work, processing time records, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining
payroll control records and calculating payrolls. Oversees computation of pay according to
company policy and in accordance with government regulations and tax codes.
Job Qualifications
Required : Master’s Degree, preferred in business or related field such as
Accounting, Audit or Finance. Certified Public Accountant preferred or
Certified Payroll Professional Certification and a minimum 5 years’
experience in payroll including 3 in a supervisory capacity required. Must
have general knowledge of hospital or governmental accounting
principles.
Knowledge of Timekeeping and HR / Payroll processing, Workday,
KRONOS or other related payroll software, Excel and Word is preferred.
Knowledge of Federal and State payroll tax laws, wage garnishment
laws, and experience in preparing payroll tax reports is required.
Demonstrated skills in collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving to
achieve goals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to
effectively communicate with internal or external groups
Demonstrated skills in detecting anomalies or variations from expected
results
Ability to formulate and implement relevant policies and procedures
Ability to work independently and prioritize work to meet time sensitive
deadlines
Possess high ethical standards and ability to apply critical thinking in
evaluating various scenarios
Able to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate
discretion
Proficient with Microsoft Office products and computer-based accounting
software or payroll support systems is required
Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for coordinating payroll activities required to process all payroll transactions and
payments timely and accurately for all employees of Halifax Health.
2. Overall supervision of payroll staff to ensure effective and efficient workflow to
accomplish departmental and hospital goals and objectives.
3. Creates training manuals, participates in work groups and committees as requested.
4. Responsible for ensuring all tax related filing, payroll deductions and vendor payments are
completed and processed in a timely manner consistent with laws and company policies.
5. Maintains and reviews user access where applicable.
6. Audits payroll information for accuracy.
7. Responsible for accuracy in physician contracted payments.
8. Responsible for coordinating all banking transactions that are required for payroll functionality.
9. Assists in process improvements, and implementation of new systems as well as transitioning
from manual processes to computerized or automated processes within designated time
frames.
10. Interviews and trains new employees. Complete employee performance evaluations
and recommend pay increases. Perform corrective action counseling and termination
of employment when necessary.
11. Responsible for training and assisting all users with payroll or time and attendance issues.
12. Scans and maintains original records as required by state and company guidelines.
13. Assists with annual audits as required.
14. Performs all other duties as assigned.
