Job Summary
The Health & Safety Assistant is responsible for assisting in safety information, obtained from a variety of sources. It requires the ability to analyze data from conceptualization through presentation of the data.
Oversees departmental records processes, and ensures records are maintained in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Additional responsibilities include oversight of special projects and other reporting functions as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepares weekly and monthly health & safety reports and presentations
- Maintains a variety of safety records to ensure compliance with governmental requirements; and Accident Records
- Collects and analyzes data used for compiling company safety statistics / trends and maintains reports as required. This includes Region & USA Heat Maps and associated reports / data.
Safety Improvement Cards, VFL and SBO
- Maintains Drive Cam reports and update drivers’ records
- Keeps official safety / human resources records
- Coordinate DOT DQ files for monthly updates(DOT files are kept in WPB)
- Coordinate Truck Overweight violations with attorneys and drivers
- Prepare and distribute Eye Glass Vouchers for employees
- Prepare and review Windshield claims and Public Complaints
- Assist in preparation in information gathering for CEMEX attorney for defense
- Coordinate and conduct New Hire Orientation to include Safety and Human Resources modules
- Occasionally conduct safety classes on selected safety essentials for office
- Coordinate and distribute PPE supplies for new hires and other employees
- Creates and maintains personnel and medical folders
- Answers phone calls / questions and greets guests or mail couriers as needed
- Assist with community involvement initiatives
- Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations preferred
- Bilingual preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Attention to detail is essential in addition to multi-tasking ability
- Good communications skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Working Conditions
- Capability to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to work with standard office / computer Equipment
- Capable of working in an open office environment
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and / or a negligible amount of force frequently
- Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees / visitors
