Ameritas is looking for our next Director, Actuarial-Assumption and Experience Studies to join our Corporate Actuarial team.
This position will lead a team of associates focusing on actuarial experience studies and assumptions and will report to the Corporate Chief Actuary.
This detail-oriented, results-driven individual will have advanced knowledge of industry practices and standards and assume the lead in the assigned responsibilities.
This position is essential for the company's management of risk and to assure the appropriate level of profitability. This position is expected to provide actionable information that enables good business decisions and is accountable for project initiatives and business processes within job area.
This role could be hybrid or remote based on proximity to an office location.

What you do
- Lead actuarial experience study and assumption setting process for life, annuity and disability income business
- Responsible for thought leadership around data needs for current and future experience studies
- Actively manage the assumption governance process including new state-of-the-art Assumption Repository
- Oversee strong documentation and control environment as well as team development and training
- Challenge experience study deep dive structure and results
- Recommend well-vetted, fit-for-purpose, consistent assumptions across multiple use cases
- Provide independence while working with both business and corporate interests
- Oversee VM-50 experience reporting and other industry experience study data requests
- Responsible for company X-factor analysis
- Provide oversight on stress testing, scenario and sensitivity analysis around assumptions to equip management to make strategic decisions
- Build and cultivate internal and external relationships
- Develop partnerships within the organization to engage in cross-functional business initiatives
- Oversee and accountable for business plans while focusing on results and measurements
- Build strategy around the organization's Purpose, Mission, Vision and Values
- Monitor the external markets to ensure industry best practices
- Consult and represent Ameritas to external stakeholders
What you bring
- Bachelor's in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field or equivalent work experience
- 7-10+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 2 years in a formal experience study or assumption environment
- Actuarial modeling software knowledge strongly preferred
- 4+ years of leadership or management experience
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of life, annuity, disability income and / or retirement plans products with preference toward knowledge of indexed products
- Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation. Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry.
- Ability to accurately perform detailed calculations with a high-level of understanding.
- Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes, and other work performed.
- Project management experience with the ability to multi-task and switch back and forth between projects as needed.
