You may not know all of CBCs tools but youre technically adept and willing to learn. You know your way around a studio and are comfortable in providing technical support through a live broadcast.
You understand the needs of all platforms, radio, digital, mobile,and TV so you can understand their needs when gathering your own stories.
In this role, youll be reporting specifically for a regional program, Afternoon Drive, which covers Windsor, London and communities in between, responsible for bringing stories of the region to radio, digital, mobile and social platforms.

Key tasks :
- Chase current affairs stories, interview sources and write stories for broadcast.
- Monitor area traffic and bring traffic information to air daily.
- Contribute to on-air conversations with the aim of engaging the audience through talkback, social media and text
- Experience and proven ability to write and voice clear, concise and critical stories for radio, including interactives, sound paks and other longer-form treatments.
- Pitch original stories on a daily basis that highlight people and places in southwestern Ontario, with an emphasis on stories involving Black, Indigenous and people of Colour, persons with disabilities, and youth.
- Package digital stories with the best photos and most engaging video clips, plus links and other multimedia.
- Write & produce stories based on gathered interviews or live-streamed events, filling gaps as needed.
- Write headlines that draw people in both on the website and mobile devices.
- Quickly write breaking news stories for multiple platforms.
- Take photos and videos with a DSLR, smart phone and other mobile devices
- Edit stories written by team members when needed.
- Post stories on social media accounts.
- Operate a soundboard during a live on-air broadcast and provide other technical support to the programming team.
- Experience in determining potential legal issues and journalistic policy violations, and ability to act on them.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with the following :
- A university degree or equivalent preferred.
- Three years of experience with audio platforms specializing in current affairs is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's licence, and a willingness to travel.
- Storyteller with a strong demonstrated connection to or interest in the diversity of Windsor-Essex County and other communities in southwestern Ontario, including a strong knowledge of issues facing Black, Indigenous, people of Colour and people with disabilities.
- Proven ability to work in diverse teams with a broad range of perspective.
- Technical ability to self-operate radio control-booth equipment during live broadcasts, to record interviews and voiced items.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of web, mobile and social media tools and industry trends.
- Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
- High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including occasional early starts and occasional late finishes.
