Position : Construction Laboratory Technician

S&ME is looking for a full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team, serving the Louisville, KY-IN region.
You'll be based out of our New Albany, IN office.
This is a fantastic entry-level role for anyone eager to start their career in civil engineering. You'll learn to test building materials for quality used at job sites, with no prior experience required.
We're looking for motivated individuals ready to grow with us. You'll get valuable hands-on experience in a booming industry while working closely with skilled engineers and professionals.
What You'll Do :
Handle and process lab samples, including compaction testing of soil, and document physical properties of soil and aggregates in line with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and project guidelines
- Perform compressive strength tests on materials like soil, rock, and concrete
- Use Metafield or similar systems to accurately log test results
- Calibrate lab and field equipment according to industry standards to ensure reliable testing
- Work closely with a dedicated team of engineers and technicians
- Help maintain a safe, efficient lab environment
Note : While most work takes place in the lab, some on-site testing may be required depending on project needs.
Requirements :
- High school diploma or GED
- Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing), using the English language
- Ability to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs. (field / laboratory samples and equipment)
- Ability to work and maneuver handheld tools and equipment (such as a loaded wheelbarrow / buckets on uneven ground, power tools, etc).
- Ability and willingness to prepare for and pass applicable certification examinations such as ACI Strength, NICET Soils, etc.
