Assistant Project Manager - Transportation
Transportation Job Type Full-time Description Job Purpose
Assistant Project Managers are responsible and accountable to assist Project Managers (PMs) in the systematic and consistent execution of projects in the Transportation Department.
Responsibilities include coordination, communication, and enforcement of Company and Department processes, procedures, and standards and the promotion of Company culture and core values.
They are responsible for contributing towards a positive and collaborative working environment with PMs and their Teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project and Client Management
- Assist PMs in the implementation and management of projects and organization and collaboration of team members
- Assist in coordinating resource needs for Team projects
- Manage small projects per PM delegation, oversee and delegate tasks, and engage in design of projects; keep PM abreast of project progress
- Schedule and participate in project meetings
- Represent our Company in communications with clients per PM direction
- Prepare agreements including scope, schedule, work plan, fees, and terms and conditions with PM direction and approval
- Monitor and report the financial performance of projects to PM (Office Earnings, Multiplier, etc.) and proactively communicate changes in scope, billing processes, and schedules to PM
- Follow Accounting and Department procedures for invoicing and collections and assist PMs on invoicing and collections as directed
- Communicate regularly with PM of any significant challenge, deviation from procedures and metrics, or incidents that occurs on projects
Technical and Practice Leadership
- Responsible for coordination of all technical aspects and policies of the Department and Company
- Analyze technical problems; devise new or improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions; and communicate those to the PM for approval and implementation
- Provide quality control / quality assurance consistent with Company and Department standards and the requirements of our clients and regulatory agencies
- Utilize companys current technology as much as practicable to design projects
Personnel Leadership
- Assist PM to achieve the goals and strategies for the Team and Department
- Participate in mentorship, career path planning and development, performance plans, mentoring, and resource sharing for all supervised Team Members and per PM direction
- Participate in effective communication and performance management needed to achieve Company, Department, Team, and project goals.
- Participate in Department / Company recruitment efforts per PM direction
- Create a positive environment; engage in Company, Department, and Team meetings routinely, team building efforts, and community involvement
- Report personnel issues to supervisor and participate as directed
Client and Business Development
- Responsible for cultivation of existing personal business relationships including periodic client meetings, proposal and budget development, and obtaining feedback with consultation from PM
- Seek opportunities for cross-selling to enhance and expand our existing client relationships during and after projects
Requirements
Qualifications
Required :
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3 to 5 years of engineering experience and demonstrated leadership within teams as relates to roadway design such as pavement widening, storm drainage, erosion control, traffic management and control, and pavement markings
- Experience in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, GEOPAK and / or graphic software experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
- Intermediate knowledge of contracts, budgeting, and forecasting
- Execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate personal investment in your career
- Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented
- Energetic, flexible, confident, and forward thinking
Preferred :
Professional Engineer or ability to obtain registration within six months
Working Conditions
The assignment will require occasional evening and weekend work, occasional job site visits outdoors, and working in collaborative, fast-paced, and client-driven environment.
Physical Requirements
The assignment may occasionally require repetitive physical tasks (such as operating a computer), standing and / or sitting for extended periods of time, extended time travelling in a vehicle, and carrying equipment and materials up to 15 pounds.
