Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, invites applications to fill the position of Chair, Associate Professor of Communications.
This position supervises the work of all faculty and staff members assigned to the Department of Communications
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assists the dean with formulating and administering instructional and academic policies
- Develops and revises courses, ensuring course syllabi are prepared properly and are up to date and incorporates methods for improving instruction
- Transmits course objectives and departmental reports to the dean
- Promotes the preparation of grant proposals to fund departmental programs
- Assists in administering grants awarded to support such programs
- Supervises the preparation of materials pertaining the department to be published in University catalogs
- Identifies the need for new faculty positions or the need to fill vacant positions
- Evaluates the performance of faculty members of the department
- Prepares class schedules, makes faculty assignments, and ensures that the competencies are consistent with departmental objectives
- Ensures that all departmental majors and minors receive proper academic advising;
- Determines the need of supplies, equipment, library and related materials and ensures these needs are met
- Prepares and submits a departmental budget, in consultation with the Dean of the College and University financial planners, and ensures the approved budget is administered properly
- Teaches courses as prescribed for academic chairs, and performs other duties as assigned
Ph.D. or Terminal degree in any Communications based academic discipline administered by the department, credentials to qualify for the rank of associate or full professor, 5 years of teaching experience, and 5 years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience at the departmental, college / university level required.
It is to be noted that for the purpose of continuous improvement of faculty qualifications as faulty members complete advanced degrees, certifications, licenses, etc.
the faculty member will send official documentation, within 45 days of hire, to the Office of Human Resources, and the credentialing file in Academic Affairs.
