JOB SUMMARY
The Geospatial Program Manager - GeoAI leads the planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, rollout, support, and presentation of the Taylor Geospatial Institute (TGI) strategic programs and projects.
This position is responsible for coordinating with teams across the consortium and outside partners to provide TGI strategy, program & project guidance, geospatial expertise, and report schedules and status.
This role is also responsible for documenting processes, projects, advancements, and implementations to ensure TGI metrics are met and that the consortium partners are experiencing value in their membership.
This position will launch and lead TGI’s GeoAI Center of Excellence, which is a multi-year and multi-million dollar strategic initiative starting in the summer of 2024.
The initiative will collate the consortium’s AI (Artificial Intelligence) and GeoAI (Geospatial AI) capabilities. The position requires both strong program management skills and technical expertise in the field to effectively manage the process to award key GeoAIseed grants aimed at establishing the Center of Excellence.
The position is also expected to seek and secure matching funding from government or industry partners. These efforts should lead to continuous publishing of TGI thought leadership pieces such as GeoAI blogs and white papers, as well as attracting innovative generative and geospatial experts in AI to present and participate in TGI initiatives.
Additionally, this effort includes identifying research opportunities, technology and science advancement opportunities, and operational implementation concepts.
TGI needs an independent, organized, and motivated individual who will lead the planning, design, development, implementation, sponsorship, rollout, support, and reporting of the programs associated with the strategic initiative.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops and manages projects for initiating and sustaining institutional objectives and metrics within the TGI 3- and 10-year plans;
- manages a variety of geospatial oriented projects across multiple organizations (academia, government, industry) and varied teams of specialists such as engineers, scientists, and users;
- develops, executes, and manages projects related to geospatial research, technology and science advancements, and operational implementations;
- launches and manages identified working groups, grant projects, workshops, etc., as well as define, document, and track their status, and impact;
- works with consortium members and government, industry, and academic partners; maintains awareness of new trends and developments in geospatial fields;
incorporates new developments as appropriate into programs; participates in TGI processes, strategies and systems
- Partners with groups across consortium partners to provide program, application, and development support; maintains strong partnerships and collaboration with key constituents across the TGI university consortium, to include the Research Council, various working groups and project participants, associates, post-docs, and doctoral students in the consortium, non-consortium partners, government, industry, and academic institutions;
- leads reporting and presentations of program strategies and project status; conducts regular status meetings and provides guidance and expertise to projects when necessary;
documents projects and provides data for tracking metrics and sharing marketing information; provides timely project information about where geospatial has improved or enabled advanced capabilities
Documents processes, status of projects, geospatial advancements, metrics, etc. and presents within and outside TGI; creates RFPs, conducts proposal reviews, coordinates contract and grant awards, initiate projects;
develops and maintains appropriate program and project process documentation; analyzes problems and identifies solutions
Creates program and project strategies, priorities, plans, and schedules in coordination with TGI objectives; looks for opportunities to employ students and to diversity within the projects;
provides implementation plans and goals, metrics, and priorities for the program
Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge and proficiency with typical business systems, such as MS Suite, Slack, etc.
Considerable geospatial knowledge and familiarity with software, GIS systems, remote sensing, etc.
Strong organization & planning skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Ability to thrive in an interesting, challenging, and changing environment of a start-up organization
Ability to work independently and manages projects and programs without significant oversight
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
Five years of direct program management experience in the geospatial field
Three to five years technical or science experience with geospatial information
Considerable experience in both administrative and project management across diverse teams and organizations
Previous experience with project design and implementation
Previous supervisory and / or management experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a related field of work
Experience with programming such as Python, and GIS related modeling
