RN PATIENT SAFETY MANAGER, UW MEDICAL CENTER

UW Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Safety Manager (RN) .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time (40 hours per week)
  • Day Shift
  • Hybrid, mix of in-office and remote work

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Focuses on improving systems and processes that enhance patient safety across the continuum.
  • Plays a key role in the review, analysis, implementation, and improvement of patient safety.
  • Uses clinical expertise to support select committees and taskforce workgroups as well as synthesize patient safety event(s) information and determine appropriate follow up.
  • Works with administrators, managers, faculty and staff to develop improvements to prevent reoccurrence of patient safety events and to improve quality of care.

For significant events with harm and other reportable events, this position will ensure that action items are completed as required and documented appropriately.

  • Close collaboration with the UW Medical Center Patient Safety Officer and Risk Management to manage patient safety events and outcomes.
  • Will lead and / or facilitate patient safety projects, workgroups and / or committees and ensure that they are aligned with organizational goals and regulatory reporting requirements.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate, synthesize and document information about patient safety events in preparation for the review process. Includes review of the online reporting tool, of the medical records, private consultation with providers and staff and site visits to the unit(s) / clinics involved as appropriate.
  • Lead / facilitate Patient Safety Event Reviews, Root Cause Analyses and Quality Improvement Debriefs as required. Prepare appropriate documentation for publicly reportable events including Department of Health and / or The Joint Commission incident reports.

Serve as subject matter expert and coordinate response to external quality of care concerns.

  • Manage and facilitate Patient Safety workgroups and committees.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management, nurse managers, providers, and administrators to finalize action plans based on resources required, potential effectiveness of interventions and other priorities.
  • Analyze trends and provide actionable data to clinical leaders for the improvement of Patient Safety Outcomes. Assists with collecting measurement data, auditing and follow up.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSN or equivalent education and experience.
  • Three (3) years of nursing experience in a clinical setting.
  • Two (2) years of experience in quality improvement.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State required by start date.
