Summary :
The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams, providing process engineering design and calculations and related technical / engineering support across a broad range of applications.
- Work may include conducting process design and analysis, detailed process mass and energy balance modeling, and laboratory and pilot plant testing;
- developing process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams; developing technical reports and equipment specifications;
estimating capital and operating costs; and sizing process piping and equipment. Projects will involve mineral and metallurgical processes, chemical and fuel processing, and other applications of process engineering (heat and mass transfer, material handling).
The work may require short-term, out-of-town work assignments and hands-on fieldwork.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, metallurgy, mineral processing, materials science, or a related degree with academic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described above
At least two years of related experience
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, clients, vendors, and other third parties
Strong technical and problem-solving skills including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
Strong data analysis skills, including the use of spreadsheets
Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office software packages, especially Excel
Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's degree in chemical or metallurgical engineering
Experience working at industrial sites either as an operating engineer or as a consultant
Demonstrated aptitude with process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Metsim, or Chemcad
4 or more years of related experience
Experience in hydrometallurgy.
Professional Engineering (PE) license or EIT status
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office.
This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis or Hibbing, Minnesota, or Ann Arbor, Michigan, offices.
NOTE : Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or work on tall structures or with industrial equipment.
Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on such sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
