SUMMARY
Under the direction of the VP of Revenue Cycles Services. The CBO Director will perform his / her duties in accordance with CBO Policy & Procedures and Company guidelines.
The CBO Director manages the day-to-day operations of the centralized billing office (CBO); manages the revenue cycle process for multiple entities.
Oversees the daily activities of the Managers and Supervisors of the CBO through ongoing skills development, coaching, and hands-on problem solving.
Serves as the first point of contact for CBO clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Oversees the daily activities of the Managers and Supervisors of the CBO through ongoing skills development, coaching, and hands-on problem solving.
- Consistently demonstrates leadership, competency in the quality of work, and knowledge of the job pertinent to the functioning of the CBO Director & the best interests of the CBO overall operations.
- Directs the efforts of all operational aspects related to Billing and Collections to ensure compliance with operational policy and procedures as set forth in the Business Office Policy and Procedure Manual (BOPM), CBO policy and procedural manual, facility administrative manual, company directive, and government regulations.
- Primarily responsible for developing processes and procedures and working with the assigned groups to ensure compliance with corporate standards.
- Achieves and maintains, or identifies areas requiring attention, to ensure goals established by the facility and company are met.
- Reviews appropriate AR reports to monitor status relative to goals, as well as to identify areas requiring immediate action.
- Establishes productivity goals and measurements.
- Reviews employee productivity on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures cost effective measures are taken to operate within budget guidelines.
- Writes and reviews various month end reports. Ensures that month end reporting to the facility, regional and corporate offices is timely and accurate.
- Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained to meet requirements of internal audit, Cost Reports, CMS audits, DCHS audits or other auditors.
- Provides financial analysis and trend reports as they relate to identifying process improvements and reducing costs; makes recommendations based on information generated.
- Interacts effectively with Department Heads. Establishes effective communication with the CFO, Patient Access, Medical Records, and IS / Data Processing departments to ensure appropriate data flow between areas.
- Performs and completes, accurately and timely, special projects as assigned by VP of Revenue Cycle and / or CFO
- Makes recommendations regarding new programs or procedural changes that may improve efficiency, increase cash collection, reduce AR, reduce bad debt, motivate staff, or may otherwise benefit the department.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements :
- Ability to perform a variety of duties and prioritize accordingly.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Minimum 5 years recent, experience preferred and demonstrated leadership skills in hospital and all claims submission. CMS & State program compliance and claim adjudication.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of billing and collections, contracts, and all applicable CMS or other regulation, including RAC, M / CAL and MSP audits.
- Extensive working knowledge of ICD-9 / 10 and CPT procedure codes. UB file format for all patient types, Acute, Subacute, Psych, Outpatient, ER billing.
- Proficient in MS-Office computer applications as well as EHR & Patient Accounting systems such as Paragon, Medicare DDE system and all M / CAL systems, etc.
Skills and Abilities :
- Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
- Understanding of CPT, ICD 9 / 10 and HCPCS codes, UB File format
- Excellent math skills

- Completes and submits required employee documentation when due and no later than 30 days after due date, including, but not limited to, performance evaluations, re-verification of professional license, certification or registration, CPR.
- Completes and submits Departmental Orientation Checklist for every new employee within first 30 days of hire or start date in a department.
- Completes educational training of all staff (existing and new employees) in the prevention of work related injuries and illnesses and in the timely reporting of such work related injuries / illnesses.
- In collaboration with Occupational Health Nurse and Human Resources, assists in the development of timely and effective Modified Work Duty Plans.
Physical Requirements :
- Body Positions : Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
- Body Movements : Arm and hand dexterity.
- Body Senses : Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.
- Strength : Ability to lift and move up to 25-pounds.
Working Environment :
- Work in an office, where the climate is controlled
- Occasional travel between spitals when necessary. 0-25 % of the time.
- OSHA exposure category : III
- Category I Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
- Category II Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.
- Category III Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
