The Manager / Director of Engineering & Capital Projects oversees the planning, execution, and optimization of capital projects and engineering initiatives across the organization.

This leadership role involves directing large-scale capital investment strategies, providing technical leadership, and ensuring alignment with company goals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, exceptional project management skills, and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and continuous improvement across multiple facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of a long-term capital investment strategy aligned with company objectives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify, prioritize, and justify capital investments that drive profitable growth, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Evaluate capital expenditures and ensure alignment with company financial plans and return on investment (ROI) expectations.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and execution of all capital projects across the organization, ensuring timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • To achieve project goals, direct and manage cross-functional teams, including engineering, construction, procurement, and external contractors.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team to ensure the successful implementation of engineering projects.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards, best practices, and innovative solutions to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and product quality.
  • Oversee the integration of new technologies, equipment, and processes to maintain competitive advantages and drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage and oversee the capital project budget, ensuring the effective allocation of resources to maximize ROI and project outcomes.
  • Conduct financial modeling, risk analysis, and post-project evaluations to assess capital investment performance.
  • Partner with finance teams to forecast capital requirements and align project spending with company financial goals.
  • Work closely with plant managers, operations, finance, and other functional leaders to ensure capital projects align with operational needs and business objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the identification and execution of process improvement initiatives.
  • Build relationships with external partners, including contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to support capital projects and engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure all capital projects and engineering activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and industry best practices, ensuring the organization remains compliant and competitive.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering and project management teams.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team remains at the forefront of industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives and leverage Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and enhance operational performance.
  • Identify and implement best practices across all facilities, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required; a Master's degree in Engineering, BA, or related field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in capital project management, engineering leadership, or a related role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects and overseeing corporate engineering functions across multiple sites.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with the ability to inspire an motivate teams.
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making skills with solid business acumen.
  • Expertise in capital budgeting, project management, and ROI analysis.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and engineering standards.
  • Proficiency in project management software and ERP systems.
