JOB SUMMARY
To design new and improve existing Complex Rehab Power Wheelchair products in accordance with established procedures and protocols, mentor less experienced engineers, and drive continuous improvement within Quantum Research & Development (R&D)
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
- Design and analyze mechanical systems and assemblies including but not limited to high load structural systems, suspension systems, vehicle chassis, and powered or manual positioning systems
- Develop, release, and revise mechanical drawings and 3D models
- Ensure designs’ safety, effectiveness, manufacturability, reliability, and Superior Product at Reduced Cost (SPARC) initiatives are met
- Perform component inspections as well as system verification and validation testing
- Meet and fulfill project timelines and budgets
- Serve as technical project lead with outside design partners and suppliers
- Coach and teach advanced skills and techniques to less experienced team members within the department
- Assist in the continuous improvement of design procedures and protocols to help drive design efficiency
- Assist management in championing change within Pride
- Travel to domestic and international contract manufacturers as needed for product launches
- Ensure all safety and security rules are strictly observed and any accidents, incidents, or injuries are promptly reported to management
- Attend the Annual C-TPAT Security Training
- Focus on continuous improvement and consistently demonstrate good business judgment
- Work effectively with all Pride departments to exceed internal and external expectations
- Pride retains the discretion to modify duties and / or assign other duties as necessary

Must have :

- Strong familiarity with ASTM, ASME, and ISO standards relating to materials, testing, and finishing
- Strong understanding of various manufacturing methods and their respective effects on component design

- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Basic working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Intermediate working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation preferred
- Intermediate understanding of Permanent Magnet DC motor theory and design preferred
- Basic understanding of Lean Principles preferred
- Lift / Push / Pull 40 lbs. preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- At least 6 years of experience in designing mechanical systems and assemblies
- At least 3,000 hours or 3 years of equivalent experience in 3D solid modeling of mechanical components and assemblies along with 2D detail drawings
- At least 1 year of experience in the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in the assembly of fabricated mechanical components and systems preferred
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in an environment supporting design, manufacturing, technical service, and technical processes preferred
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with machining, welding, and fabrication of mechanical assemblies preferred
- At least 5,000 hours or 5 years of equivalent experience in 3D solid modeling of mechanical components and assemblies along with 2D detail drawings preferred
- At least 1 year of experience with the specific products preferred
- Current or previous successful employment experience with Pride Mobility Products Corporation preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
PREFERRED EDUCATION
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
