Job Summary : Position will perform a variety of analytical projects and primarily support the Chief Accountant with all sections of the fiscal department.
This position will also interact with other departments to gather and disseminate information to improve and maintain good communication between departments.
Essential Job Functions :
- Support Chief Accountant and Controller with special projects and preparation of financial analytical reports using Excel.
- Analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to the Chief Accountant for decision making purposes.
- Perform detailed day to day accounting tasks including journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis of balance sheet accounts.
- Assist Chief Accountant in the preparation of various state required surveys and reports and annual 1099 tax reporting.
- Support Chief Accountant to coordinate annual independent and biennial state audits. Work with different departments to gather information for external auditors.
Provide regular status updates and manage auditor requests to ensure timely completion of audits.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and manage stale and canceled check processes.
- Manage the Vendor Independent Financial Report requirement program. Communicate with vendors to ensure they are aware of and meet legislative requirements.
Maintain tracking sheet to monitor status. Biannually prepare and send follow up letters to vendors with outstanding financial reports.
- Manage the donation fund disbursement requests and prepare journal entries for income and expenses related to fund. Send out required year end receipts to donors.
- Assist with preparation of reports for DDS, ARCA & Executive staff.
- Work with Chief Accountant to implement new programs and / or reporting requirements from DDS.
- Support Chief Accountant with month end closing duties and compliance of state mandated programs (i.e. Foster Grandparents / Senior Companion, Annual Family Program Fee, Family Cost Participation Programs etc.)
- Assist with the development of training materials and update procedures for the fiscal department and
- Other ad hoc duties as required.
Education : Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in accounting, finance or related field. Four (4) years of work experience in general ledger accounting, reconciliation and / or financial analysis.
Special Skills and Knowledge : Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines that accommodate exterior mandated timelines.
Need to have the skills necessary to create and present information to a variety of audiences (internal & external). Analyze financial data and create reports to inform others of results.
Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to establish good working relationships with all sections of company required.
Requires intermediate Excel skills (i.e., index / match, pivot tables etc.) and knowledge of general ledger functions, bank reconciliations and general accounting procedures.
Experience with Regional Center processes and procedures, fund accounting and supervisory experience a plus.
Other : Use of an automobile, possession of a valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance for the minimum amount prescribed by law or the ability to provide for independent transportation.
Willingness / ability to travel, willingness / ability to tolerate encounters with potentially hostile and aggressive individuals.
