Brief Description of Duties

The Assistant Director of Student Life and Services reports to the Associate Dean of Students. The Assistant Director assists with both the long-term planning and day-to-day operation of school-wide student services in areas including, but not limited to, exam administration and law school accessibility services.

The Assistant Director will provide leadership, coordination, and direction for student services staff to maintain efficient, equitable, and responsive services to students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement wellness programs, workshops, and events tailored to address the unique stressors and challenges faced by law students.
  • Manage aspects of exam administration for students with approved accommodations including scheduling of deferred exams;

assigning rooms; coordinating proctor schedules, verifying student information, preparing and issuing test materials, ensuring a secure testing environment, and triaging issues that occur during administration while maintaining the highest levels of academic integrity.

  • Provide personal advising for students, including working with students who are undergoing a personal crisis and / or who seek guidance managing the stress associated with law school transition, workload, and career paths.
  • Recommend policies and procedures for improvement of testing activities. Update and maintain policies and procedures regarding accommodations.
  • Coordinate and supervise student disability services at the law school, including but not limited to, communicating to students regarding disability issues.

Arrange for classroom and exam accommodations.

  • Collaborate with the Student Bar Association’s Wellness Committee on wellness programming and initiatives designed to foster a sense of community.
  • Work with and advise student organizations on events designed to promote wellness, inclusion, and to support students with disabilities.
  • Assist student organizations in establishing appropriate governance structures and in complying with all law school and university requirements.
  • Along with the Associate Dean of Students, serve as a liaison to the University’s Accessibility Resource Center and other university partners to provide effective accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate and oversee the student organization component of the Office including the provision of advising, training, and support of student organizations and faculty advisors.
  • Manage and lead key student affairs events such as orientation, welcome week, diversity week, wellness week, graduation, and other signature Student Affairs events as directed by the Associate Dean of Students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Completed Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-graduate professional experience in student affairs in a post-secondary institution. JD preferred.
