Description of Job Duties
The main function of the Archives is to acquire, organize, describe, preserve, and make available for research and reference use the College’s archival collections.
The primary responsibility of the Archives student assistant is to assist the Head of Archives and Special Collections.
Specific duties that the Archives student assistant performs include, but are not limited to :
- Follow archival ethics and standards concerning privacy and copyright issues
- With assistance and direction from Archivist, process and arrange archival collections, including refoldering, reboxing and removing rusty paper clips and staples
- Assist archivist in describing collections, including drafting scope and content notes and creating container lists from folder titles
- When requested by Archivist, assist with research requests, researching questions, as well as recording patron information for statistical purposes.
- Assist with digitization of and creation of metadata for photos, documents, and audiovisual material
- Assist Archivist with special projects
- In absence of Archivist, safeguard the archival collections used by researchers, as outlined in the use policy
Student is expected to observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the library and the Archives Reference Room. Student is expected to assist all patrons with courtesy.
Student must work regularly and notify the Archivist as soon as possible when they cannot work a scheduled hour. Do the job duties for this position include any driving requirements?
No Job Qualifications The student must be responsible, dependable. The student must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
