Refinery AttorneyPBF Energy Inc. (NYSE : PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities.
We are seeking a talented Refinery Attorney to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.
This role would be located in the Paulsboro and Delaware City Refineries.
The Refinery Attorney will support the Delaware Valley Refining Complex ( DVRC ), consisting of the Delaware City Refinery in Delaware City, Delaware and the Paulsboro Refinery in Paulsboro, New Jersey.
The Refinery Attorney will provide advice in the areas of Contracts, Environmental, Health and Safety regulatory compliance and HR / Labor related matters.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide and / or supervise all legal support for DVRC in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment, Contracts and HR / labor, including overseeing outside counsel
- Interaction with federal and state regulatory agencies
- Drafting and / or negotiation of procurement and other contracts
- Manage all disputes and litigation, including investigation and risk assessment
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Candidates should have an inquisitive nature with a specific interest in energy and regulatory law, and should demonstrate the following skills and abilities :
- Have a strong understanding of refining business preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Excellent communication skills and detail oriented
- Knowledge of human resources issues and labor matters as they relate to the refining business
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental issues as they relate to the refining business.
- Solid research skills with an ability to read critically and identify and solve problems
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively and prioritize assignments
- Ability to multi-task and demonstrate a sense of urgency
- Practical, solution-oriented problem solving approach
- Ability to exercise sound judgment to identify risks and effectively convey advice
- Ability to interact confidently and respectfully with peers as well as more junior or senior team members
- Ability to maintain the highest ethics and the ability to preserve absolute confidentiality
- Ability to work well with others through every level of the organization and particularly within a small legal in-house department is essential
JOB QUALIFICATIONS :
- J.D. Degree required
- Licensed to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction and able to register as Authorized In-House Counsel in the principal work location
- Generally 5+ years’ experience in the practice areas relevant to the position environmental, safety and employment and labor.
Experience working in either a refinery or in a corporate environment supporting refineries or plants preferably in the energy or chemical industry or providing outside counsel legal representation to refineries, terminals or chemical plants considered a plus
The position can be located in either New Jersey or Delaware, but will require regularly weekly travel between the two sites.
Must be willing and able to travel as business need dictates
