Summary :
All pharmacy technicians work under the direction ofClinical Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services with compassion,excellence, and efficiency.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of theapplicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader ofOthers, or Leader of Leaders.
- Must be 18 yearsor older.
OperationalDuties and Responsibilities
- Pharmacy Technicians perform ONLYnon-judgmental technical duties under the direct supervision of apharmacist.
- Prepares drug orders per physicianrequest according to established policies, procedures, andprotocols - Verifies computerized patient medication recordsaccurately.
Maintains, accurate, complete patient drug record.Compounds non-sterile pharmaceuticals. Provides servicesefficiently and in a timely fashion.
- Issuescontrolled substances to patient care areas and maintains recordsas required by law and institutional policies.
- Verifies the daily activities of the department are complete andrecorded.
- Maintains competency required forcurrent job title / position
- Maintains currenttechnician license. Ensures applicable CE records and licensure aremaintained in department files. Attends staffmeetings.
- Completes all competency / skillsassessment requirements.
- Specialty area -Serves as the technician in specialty areas such as the operatingroom or pharmacy work areas outside the centralpharmacy.
- Ambulatory care - Providesambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned such as but notlimited to anticoagulation clinics, intensive medical home,transition of care, Discharge Medication reconciliation,etc.
- Retail - Performs outpatient distributivefunctions related to entering prescriptions orders, selecting thecorrect medications for new and refilled prescription orders, andcoordinates delivery of medications for patient pick-up ordelivery.
Clinical Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective drugtherapies for patients according to established policies,procedures, and protocols.
- Reads, extracts,and interprets information in patient medical recordsaccurately.
- Detects and reports suspectedadverse drug reactions accurately and in a timelymanner.
- Coordinates pharmacist drug educationto patients and their families per institutionalprotocol.
- Participates in the qualityimprovement and medication use review activities of the department.Collects data, conducts monitors and inspections, and maintainslogs, records and other documentation asassigned.
- Provides services efficiently and ina timely fashion.
Occupational Hazards
- Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxicsubstances (including chemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs andcleaning solutions), sticks or cuts by needles and other sharpitems.
- Risk 0 exposurecategory.
- Potential for musculoskeletalinjuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are notused.
- Potential exposure to biologic materialwhen participating in direct patient care activities (e. g.,patient education, code attendance).

Licenses,Registrations, or Certifications
- Registered Pharmacy technician in the State ofpractice required
- Certified pharmacytechnician preferred
