POSITION SUMMARY : The Development Director for Institutional Advancement is responsible for projecting Lakeshore College and the Lakeshore College Foundation’s professional image to the public while overseeing, developing, and implementing strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual, major, and planned gifts from constituents to support the missions of the Foundation and Lakeshore Technical College.

This position reports to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and assists with fundraising activities, having operational responsibility for fundraising and alumni development activities that directly support Lakeshore College’s strategic priorities.

Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned) :

60%) Strategic Advancement :

  • Lead expansion of the Foundation’s initiatives to increase overall giving; build trusting relationships with stakeholders to expand current and planned gift initiatives.
  • Oversee Foundation functions, including alumni relations, scholarship administration, recognition activities, and other student support initiatives.
  • Create and strengthen strategic partnerships that advance the College’s mission and its impact.
  • Partner with college staff and departments for enhanced collaboration, understanding and promotion of all programs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist the VP of Institutional Advancement to ensure the Lakeshore College Foundation’s non-profit, 501(c)3 status; assist to ensure that all legal obligations to continue nonprofit status are maintained.
  • Serve as a spokesperson in the community to the organization’s constituents.
  • Coordinate Foundation marketing efforts with the Marketing / Communications department.
  • Manage Foundation budgets, including fundraising targets and goals.

30%) Donor Prospect Development :

  • Investigate the financial / biographical status of individuals, corporations, and foundations using data software.
  • Develop and maintain a prospect list with annual goals for frequency of interaction and dollars raised.
  • Coordinate development activities and manage a personal portfolio of 100 prospects and donors to ensure timely steps are taken toward solicitation, gift closure, and stewardship.
  • Plan and conduct travel as needed qualify and cultivate donors.
  • Meet regularly with the VP of Institutional Advancement and advancement staff members, deans, program managers, faculty, and volunteers to develop / review strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.
  • Position front-line colleagues (Workforce Development, faculty, managers, etc.) for success in relationships with donors, potential donors, volunteers, and other supporters.
  • Complete and file thorough reports of all contacts promptly using donor management or CRM software provided by the organization.
  • Oversee that all gifts are accurately allocated following donor wishes and recorded according to Foundation policy and IRS regulations.

5%) Fundraising Initiatives :

  • Manage fundraising campaigns, including annual fund drive, student assistance, capital, and specialty campaigns, etc.
  • Conceive, write, and edit fundraising proposals to corporations, associations, foundations, and individuals to support college priorities.

5%) Alumni Engagement :

  • Create and implement an alumni engagement program; maintain an active social media presence in coordination with Lakeshore’s marketing and communications team.
  • Active use of resources such as Distinguished Alum, former Student Ambassadors, Student Life, and other groups.
  • Act as Director for Alumni Development research best strategies, create a comprehensive alumni engagement plan; evaluate the plan on a yearly basis.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related discipline required.
  • Three to five years of relevant occupational experience required.
  • Three to five years of demonstrated leadership experience required.

  • Knowledge of Lakeshore’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Familiarity with different leadership styles and techniques.
