The Director of Safety will manage and have oversight of all Company safety programs supporting our 6 FBO locations, 5 MRO locations and our Flight Operations Division.
The Director of Safety will report to the Accountable Executive and liaison with each location or department manager for all matters related to the Corporate Safety Program and the administration of the SMS program.
The Director of Safety is the individual responsible for the development, monitoring its implementation and oversight of the Company’s safety program and should have extensive operational experience and professional qualifications in aviation with knowledge and understanding of aviation safety programs, standards and operating practices.
The Director of Safety is collectively responsible for the safety and efficiency of Company operations, while giving timely advice and assistance on safety matters to managers at all levels.
Will prepare and submit the annual aviation safety report. This position is responsible for proposing safety policy, monitoring its implementation and providing an independent overview of the location's activities, at which they affect safety, review and revision of the safety program;
timely advice and assistance on safety matters to managers at all levels; and a reporting system for hazards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Establish and implement the Flight Departments Title 14 CFR Part 5 required Safety Management System (SMS) and expand the formal SMS program to the entire corporate structure.
- Conduct all safety training.
- Maintain high visibility to all locations and departments.
- Facilitate environmental compliance.
- Conduct Emergency Response Exercises.
- Conduct routine safety flight crew / maintenance technician briefings / audits.
- Foster safety responsibility in each employee.
- Report and document all incidents to the management chain of command immediately.
- Respond to all employee safety suggestions and concerns.
- Establish, support and encourage safety as a Cutter priority.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Provide technical assistance in identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards.
- Discharge duties to meet applicable legal requirements and maintain safe operations.
- Perform an annual safety performance evaluation of the previous year's operational experience.
- Set an example in all matters of safety and stimulate interest and participation in the safety program.
- Promptly investigate all incidents to determine causes and corrective actions needed to prevent a reoccurrence.
- Represent the company with government agencies and professional associations on safety and environmental matters.
- Be knowledgeable of all company safety rules and regulations and enforce them as they apply to respective work areas.
- Conduct hazard assessments, audits and perform frequent observations of all aspects of employee and technical operations.
- Maintain the company Safety Management System manual(s) and revise based upon current policy, procedures or regulations.
- Observe employees in the course of their work to ensure they understand and properly follow work procedures that are established for their safety.
- Routinely make observations of work areas to eliminate unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and ensure prompt corrective actions are initiated.
- Visibly support safety program elements through inclusion of safety in meeting agendas, publication of motivational letters, attendance at safety meetings, and participation in departmental audits.
- Instruct each new and / or transferred employee on the hazards of the job or tasks that the employee will be assigned, to include the location of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the Company Emergency Action Plan.

TRAINING REQUIREMENT
The Director of Safety will be provided with an SMS Ground Operations and Flight Operations Manual. The Director of Safety should have extensive operational experience and, where possible, professional qualifications in aviation.
Training
The Director of Safety should participate in aviation safety education programs, events and seminars to stay current with best practices and industry requirements.
Participation in industry safety meetings, conferences, or schools is considered an essential part of the continuing education of the Director of Safety.
The Director of Safety shall also assist in training requirements for each Cutter location, to include, but not limited to :

This would include the knowledge and understanding of the following :

REQUIREMENTS / EXPERIENCE :
Previous supervisory experience with a part 121 or part 135 certificate holder and / or a part 91 or 125 operations / aviation department.
Strong understanding in 145 repair station operations / regulations required.
- Experience in a position with government department and local municipalities.
- Mechanic Airframe & Powerplant (A&P), Inspection Authorization (IA), and / or Commercial Pilot’s License.
- Have a full understanding of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, full knowledge of any and all appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements of the FAA.
- Maintain full understanding of 14 CFR Chapter 1 and as well as each locations holder’s operation specifications.
- Any combination of the above experience that shows candidate has equivalent background and expertise in the safety management field.
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS :
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Up to 25% Travel Required.
- Physical location visits and audits required quarterly as well as some short notice travel may be required.
