The Role

The Trainee Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of our seafood manufacturing factory in Livingston.

This position is responsible for assisting with day-to-day financial tasks, including processing transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end financial procedures.

The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to maintaining the financial integrity of the business.

Salary Range : £26, - £32, per year dependent on experience and CIMA qualification.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Record Maintenance :

• Assist in maintaining accurate financial records, including ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

Labour Planning :

• Partner with the operations team to interpret labour costs including kg / mh, making suggestions and recommendations proactively
• Assist with payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in employee payments and statutory deductions.

Budgeting and Forecasting :

• Provide support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor and report on budget variances.

Inventory Management :

• Assist in monitoring inventory levels and costing, ensuring accurate reflection in financial statements.
• Conduct periodic inventory reconciliations and report discrepancies.

Compliance and Audit :

• Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
• Assist in preparing for audits and implementing audit recommendations.

Accounts Payable and Receivable :

• Process invoices, match purchase orders, and ensure timely payments to suppliers.
• Reconcile customer payments and manage accounts receivable records.
• Follow up on outstanding invoices and resolve any discrepancies.

Ad Hoc Financial Tasks :

• Provide support to the Finance Manager and other team members on various financial projects and initiatives.
• Assist in improving financial processes and implementing best practices.

Skills and Experience Required

• CIMA qualified, or part CIMA qualified, is desirable
• Some experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with accounting software and ERP systems is highly desirable
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• A flexible approach, with strong problem solving skills
