The Department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts (CINE) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the On-Call CINE Lab Coordinator position! The On-Call CINE Lab Coordinator will maintain all Cinema Studies labs and classroom computers used in the Cinema Studies department.

They will work closely with faculty and the chair to determine the current and projected needs of students in film production courses using expertise gained from work in the film production industry.

The position will be responsible for the maintenance, organization, and day-to-day operation of the production course lab equipment located in CINE classrooms;

provide equipment, software, and technical expertise for students and faculty; and provide safety training to all lab users.

Who We Are

The Department of Cinema Studies & Moving Image Arts (CINE) seeks to integrate the critical, historical, and theoretical study of cinema, media, and the visual arts, with artistic and commercial practices.

Our department offers the academic degrees BA, and BA / MA in critical film studies, and BA, BFA, and MFA degrees in film and video arts.

All of our students in the critical and production tracks complete a number of critical studies requirements including cinema history, film analysis, film theory, genres, documentary practices, directors, national and regional cinemas, and other history and theory classes.

These courses are all coordinated with filmmaking and critical studies majors sharing their different expertise to make for a more engaging, deeper understanding of the subject of our studies.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

CINE Computer Lab Management and Equipment Maintenance :

  • Maintain CINE lab computers to film production industry standards.
  • Set up labs for pedagogical use in film production courses.
  • Research procuring equipment and software in conjunction with teaching and student needs.
  • Coordination with the University Office of Information Technology (OIT) to keep CINE lab computers secure and networked.

This includes attending meetings with OIT and representing the department on an official level.

  • Independently create and update manuals on lab software and equipment practices.
  • Maintain safeguards to protect against risky or dangerous use of CINE equipment and software.
  • Clean and fix CINE labs, software, equipment, space, and hardware. Use professional judgment to determine the best way to perform this.
  • Keep CINE labs orderly and safe for use by teaching faculty and students.
  • Train and supervise student employees who will perform routine repairs and troubleshooting lab equipment and assist the Coordinator in the above tasks.

Software Licenses / Subscriptions Review :

  • Keep computer software licenses and subscriptions current, so that there is no loss of capability in the CINE labs.
  • Report to the Chair and other staff when licenses / subscriptions will change in cost or effectiveness.

Other Duties as Needed to Maintain CINE Equipment :

  • Change space use based on departmental teaching needs.
  • Communicate, translate, and implement to the Chair and other staff when OIT directives affect the department.
  • The physical relocation of equipment as needed for courses, or teaching.

What We Can Offer

The hire rate for this position is $26.00 - $28.00 per hour.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the job duties or a combination of related education and / or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned may substitute.
  • 1+ year of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to manage computer lab by updating software and maintaining hardware.
  • Knowledge of industry standards of film production software and equipment.
  • Ability to instruct others how to use software and equipment.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • MFA or Master's degree in art practices, cinema studies, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience related to the work assigned to this position.
