Job Title : Adjunct Professor in General Music

JOB SUMMARY :
Conducts University courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for teaching during the fall and spring semesters.
Responsible for teaching MUS 200.01 and MUS 200.02 as the need arises for Fall 2023 and Spr 24
Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
Compiles specialized materials for assignments.
Stimulates class discussion.
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
Relevant duties will pertain to teaching Intro To Music
EDUCATION :
Master’s required, Ph.D. preferred.
EXPERIENCE :
A minimum of two years teaching experience in a higher education setting.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
Must be able to make decisions supporting the department’s mission and goals.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality.
Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Must have interpersonal skills, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse organization.
Must have a high level of professional appearance and demeanor.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Course specifics include;
Teaching students to recognize the different listening elements as they pertain to the following musical eras.
Middle Ages (450-1450)
Renaissance (1450-1600)
Baroque (1600-1750)
Classic (1750- 1820)
Romantic (1850-1900)
Black genres in music (1900- to the present) ring shouts, spirituals blues, ragtime, R&B,, neo soul, hip hop and the genesis of these forms.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend work.
Travel for administrative work is expected. The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions : protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse;
ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
