Overview :
The Manager, Social Services, works closely with social services staff to coordinate services for patients according to hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
The position also ensures services provided meet the psychosocial needs of the patient at the appropriate level of care.
The position is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, providing mental health expertise in addition to community outreach, networking, and liaison with community programs as needed.
The position ensures that hospital policies and procedures are properly interpreted and applied.
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC and Whittier Hospital Medical Center.
It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values of AHMC. The employee shall support Whittier Hospital Medical Center’s strategic plan and goals and direction of the performance improvement plan.

Essential Job Functions
Supervises case management staff to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
Provides coaching and counseling to social services staff as needed.
Participates in "Multidisciplinary Patient Care Meetings".
Participates in "Complex Case Meetings".
Knowledgeable regarding community resources and demonstrates ability to mobilize them on patients' behalf.
Serves a role model in promotion of positive guest relations, demonstrating courtesy and remaining sensitive to the needs and concerns of others.
Advocate for patient's rights.
Assists in prioritizing work flow and staffing assignments as needed.
Serves as a resource to the social services staff for complex cases.
Promotes appropriate utilization through provision of psychosocial care, which includes counseling, information on financial and other community resources, consultation with the interdisciplinary health care team, anticipation of changing patient needs, and identification of quality and risk issues.
Educates hospital staff regarding social service concepts and abuse reporting.
Develops and facilitates educational / support groups for patients and / or significant others and staff as appropriate.
Assists in the completion and submission of specific reports, forms, and information requests to Utilization Review Committee, and other departments and outside agencies within requested time frame.
Participates in meetings and workshops sponsored by agencies or groups to update Medical Social Work knowledge base and knowledge of community resources to benefit patients or Whittier Hospital Medical Center.
Demonstrates ability to cover a case load of patients as needed.
Provides supervision hours to MSW Social Worker as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education / Training / Experience
LCSW, MSW, degree from an accredited school required.
Two years acute or related medical care experience required.
Management experience preferred.
Licenses / Certifications
LCSW required.
Healthcare Provider CPR required.
