The College of Engineering has a robust co-op program for graduate engineering students and its rapid expansion now requires more support to continue developing and growing the program.

This is a full time, non-tenure track faculty position, primarily working with students in the College of Engineering’s Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering (MGEN) Unit on the Boston campus.

Specific responsibilities include :

  • Employer Relations / Job Development : The Cooperative Education Coordinator is expected to develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts;
  • develop new and maintain ongoing co-op positions and make appropriate referrals for students to apply to these positions;

maintain a current understanding of the industry / field, employers, and positions.

Activities to support this endeavor include : site visits to new and existing employers, outreach and follow up communications, and continued efforts to develop and enhance new & current relationships with employers.

Preparation of Students : The Cooperative Education Coordinator will prepare students for the co-op search and work experience, both by teaching and coaching co-op related courses each semester and through individual advising meetings.

Preparation includes teaching tools appropriate for co-op search (interviewing skills, resume writing, LinkedIn, professional behavior, and job search tools) as well as career foundations topics (such as ethics, mindset, mindfulness, motivation, and diversity).

This role will be the primary point of contact for a large group of students in preparing for co-op and while on co-op. The Coordinator will collaborate with college faculty, administration, and other co-op coordinators to help students integrate their co-op and academic education and share knowledge of the industry with academic faculty to integrate work-based learning with curriculum-based learning.

Service : This role will also perform co-op, MGEN, college, and university service as agreed upon by the Coordinator and Executive Director for the MGEN Unit of the College of Engineering.

Further, he / she / they will be encouraged to engage in service opportunities outside the University to enhance the reputation of the co-op program and the University.

A master’s degree is required by the appointment start date. A minimum of five years of professional work experience is required.

Previous experience with employers including outreach or consultation is required. Experience working with engineers in a Human Resources setting or in the career development, recruiting or counseling of engineering students is required.

Substantial use of technology tools is required (internet, systems, word, social media). Communication skills including presentation are required.

Experience working with a diverse staff or student populations, preferably with international students or candidates, is required.

Demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace is required. The ideal candidate will have previous co-op experience and / or previous experience in developing professional partnerships, e.

g., recruitment or employer outreach.
